i just changed the battery and it turns over but doesnt start and it doesnt sound like it wants to fire, the sound of the engine doesnt change compared to a regular engine when you crank it the sound pitch goes up and down, any ideas?

 

and i have spark and fuel

 

make sure your battery terminals are screwed down tightly.

take apart your starter and have it tested at a local autozone.

take apart your distributor and check your ignition coil. see if it has burnt marks or if it smells funny.

 

check for fuel, check timing, check spark.

then report back and troubleshoot

 

ABK read up, i have spark adn fuel, distribuster is BRAND NEW, i guess maybe its the starter, but wouldnt it not turn over at all?

 

did anything weird happen with the car? over heat or something?

 

it sounds like the timing belt is snapped when you try to start it but its fine, i just checked that out

nothing wierd happened, started it yesterday, let it run for about a half hour, no over heating

 

any cels?? also you might start pulling fuses and checking them

 

no cel's and ive checked every fuse under the dash and engine bay

 

Kinda sounds like your starter isn't engaging the flywheel from your description. Pull a spark plug and put your hand over the hole and feel for compression.

 

when i put my hand over the whole should i feel air come out? if so is that what i want? and if nothing happens?

also could my starter be shot?

If he is getting spark, then the distributor is turning, so the engine has to be cranking.

 

If the starter wasnt enguaging the flywheel, you would know it. It sounds nothing like the engine turning over. It is an awful high pitch screetching sound.

If you are 100% sure you are getting fuel and spark, I would check your cam timing and then do a compression check.

turns out i have a bent valve. go me

 

how did you bend a valve?

 

i dont know, i got the engien adn swapped it in so i guess the person before already had it bent

bent valve is not that bad just as long as it didn't mess up anything else

is it a d series?

 

yeah its a d, i just swapped the head and now starts like a champ
