Default crx door interchange

after hearing yes and no to 88 to 90-91 door interchange.. I decided to try it myself.

I wanted to put my 88 si doors on my 90 si frame, and vice versa.

the outcome =
the 88si doors fit perfectly on the 90si.
the 90si doors DID not fit on the 88si.

the rear edge of the 90si doors have a thicker shape that won't fit in the frame of the 88si. I'm going to do a little cutting and see what I can do about that.

If anyone in the atlanta/macon GA area has a set of 88 doors for sale. please get in touch.

because one (89-91) have door mounted seatbelts, and causes the door to have extra parts on the side that wont fit into a car without the door mounted seatbelts...

the 90 shell that I bought had one shaved door handle.. which i dont want on my track car..not to mention the weight reduction. oo and. putting the 88 doors on the 90 shell.. takes away all seatbelts. I have corbeau seats and harnesses, no need.

the 88 that I have is just a parts car for my other 88.. I got an offer for it the other day, so I am trying to keep it as together as I can.. I'm putting the 90 doors on it, to keep it looking like a car.

here comes pictures of the cars/doors.

88 si door jam

88 si door

88 si door on the 90 frame

90 si door jam

90 si door

90 si door on 88 si ( do not fit)

now.. can you see why they don't fit? the rear edge of the 90 door is thicker..

my plan.

and i can't post anymore today.. wtf

I cut out an 89 door to fit it on my 88, its no problem if you weld over the hole you make.

thanks for sharing this information and the pictures too. the one way interchangeablity i suppose has caused a lot of the confusion as to whether swapping the doors works or not. (some ppl say it does, some ppl say it doesnt. looks like they were all right!)

Now what are you going to do about the 88 door molding on the 90 si? Are you gonna put the thinner molding on the 88 door so it matches cause it looks off balance right now.

While this is OT to the thread starter, I have an 88 CRX and know of a 86 CRX that has a body in good shape (motor works too) for $120. Will the doors exchange or not. Right door on my track car has a crinkle and if I can get a door cheap I might buy the car rather than bondo. But then I also am curious if the dash will switch out (bad expirament with roll cage installation) and the back bumper cover is not quite right. Will those three things swap out? TIA.

The little quirks differentiating 88-89 and 90-91 cars are pretty insignificant when compared to the 1G's (most of them were carbed, suspension was struts up front & a solid rear axle, and they look different to boot. Oh, and the dash is different too.
