Default Vtec question

I have a 2004 civic LX, it has a D17A1 engine and it doesn't have a vtec system.
I want to know if I can put a vtec system on the engine.
if a can, what I need to do it?

Unfortunately VTEC isn't just a simple system to install, like an ignition system. You really only have two options.

-Best option is to swap another motor in there. If you are strapped for cash and/or just a single cam lover you can look for a D16Y8 or a D16Z6. Otherwise go for the dual cam motors, B16A, B18C, yada, yada, yada.

-Or if you are feeling more inventive you can slap a VTEC head onto your non-VTEC block (except it's a little bit more involved with that).

Welcome to H-T. You should also try using that SEARCH button to the top right.

EDIT: Whoops, my bad...I just noticed you said you have 2004. I know some companies out there have some mount kits for the newer Civics for the K-series VTEC motors. You should look into that.

Probably.. but why would you want VTEC so badly? I don't think it's worth it on the newer Civics. The older Civics are a different story since the parts needed for a mini-me are pretty cheap.

K that bad boy!

I just noticed that you posted this on Hondaswap as well...

You're not going to be able to put a 5th/6th Gen D series head on your d17.

Short of buying a Civic Si or RSX-S, a K series swap is your best bet if you want VTEC that badly...
