I want to buy a CRX HF
I have been lookng for a CRX HF unmodified for five weeks now
I was thinking the miles on the engine was an important criteria
but since they can go 300,000. or so I wondering what is the most important factor or factors when deciding if the car is a good value.
Since I'm on the subject What is a reasonable price to pay on a 89-91
in good condition?
Thanks

well for me i would check how the body is, if it dont have any rust, and between like 2-3k then i say good buy, but thats also with simi good interior, i wouldnt really care about engine wise, inless you dont plan on an engine swap
way to spend your first post, ehehe. you definately want to learn to use the search button before posting.
anyways, most important thing to look for is rust. rust is the number one killer of our crx's. i wouldnt buy a crx with more than 125,000 on the original engine myself, unless it had a bunch of good records. autotrader is your friend, just be patient.

Forget mileage.
I paid $2700 for my CRX with 231,000 miles on its original engine. Burns a bit of oil but runs strong, and has held up for 10,000 miles of autocrosses, track days, and hard street driving so far.
Body condition is the most important point to consider when looking for an '88-91 Civic/CRX. Anything without rust is a keeper. I'd rather replace an engine (which, BTW, are a dime a dozen) than have to fix cancer.
As far as reasonable prices go, it depends on the car and your location. In my area, a clean CRX will fetch a heavy price premium. In California, you can find them anywhere and everywhere for just peanuts.

Ok....if you find a crx with no rust and under 125,000 mi what a find. That dude is crazy....most of our cars that will be anywhere near your price range have at least 200,000mi on it. But yeah....get the hf...and check for rust everywhere....and make sure the motor is somewhat decent.
hey,
5 weeks isnt that long....i looked around for about 4 or 5 months for the exact crx i wanted...but the patience paid off. I found a clean 89 hf for 1000 dollars. it was hit in the front but what crx hasnt been? ( now i know there will be about 1,000posts of crx's that havent been hit) but the damage was minimal and with a little effort you can fix it.
if you plan on swapping then get any mileage...as long as it can get you back home its fine. When i bought mine i could sit with the ebrake on and the clutch totally out. I drove it from Santa Cruz, CA to Vallejo, CA...about 80 miles.
DO NOT i repeat DO NOT jump into buying any crx...a crx is typically hit or miss. and if you miss you just wasted a couple of g's on parts that you could have gotten at a junkyard for no more then 300 bucks.
just be patient.
and good luck, welcome to HT

I own a 90 crx hf, it's at 267k and is still going strong without any problem. everything is stock. stock hf motor is going stronger than i thought. This little bugger is a fun toy to drive.
keep searching.....you'll find it....i have the motor if you want it....>it's out of a 1990 hf.....the valvetrain is spotless...the l3 tranny no grinds.....it's the hf tranny....There's like 266,000 mi when i pulled it out. and i did all the oil changes and fluids running through it. Besides the normal fixing....belts..etc it's a good strong motor...hit me up if you want it. I'm in s.d
