Where to get tires
i've never ordered a set of tires online. if you tell us what kind of tire (ie R-compound/street) you're looking for, it would be helpful.
Thanks for the fast reply. Currently I'm looking for some snow tires (I've been to tirerack, but the price of tires + steelies is comparable to what I can get around here locally). BUT, in a couple months, I'll be looking for some performance tires for my rims sitting in my kitchen with bald tires on it. These will be pure performance tires... probably the T1S....
http://www.tires.com and http://www.tirerack.com are the only sources that I would order tires from online.
http://www.victoriatire.com has good prices, but the advantage may be less for you because of the coast to coast shipping. I boguth from them, but in person, since they're within driving distance from me.
I checked tirerack, but I can get comparable prices locally at the tire shops... hmmm.... I'll check tires.com
thanks for the replies

I have always bought tires locally. Most retailers will match the online price includding shipping costs.....
Plus it is good to support your local community.

http://www.vulcantire.com is where I buy my Azenis from and seem to have the best price on them. Good prices all around as well.
Online for winter tires - I would go with Tirerack.com They are incredibly reliable. They have never screwed up an order or been late. Over the years I have probably purchased over 40 tires and 8 wheels from them. Their prices might be $5 higher than the cheapest place you can find but they support motorsports, have knowledgeable staff, know what fits your car and include stuff like correct lug nuts etc etc etc.

I use Tire Rack. I'm apparently close enough, that even with the cheapest shipping option, the tires still show up the next day. My Blizzaks made it in 22 hrs, despite the horrible snow storms we had this week.
Now I just have to take them up to the Audi dealership my friend works at and get them mounted for free.

If you're buying just the tires you may want to price out the mounting cost at local places first. There are a lot of places that will refuse to mount tire bought elsewhere, and there are some that charge a lot. This may negate any price savings that you may get from buying online.

http://www.philstireservice.com is a board member, competes in the honda challenge with a GSR, and will break his *** to get you what you need when you need it. His prices are great, but even without that, it's worth spending a few extra bucks to support a fellow racer and a great guy.
