Questions regarding Heat Shields
Heat shields keep heat away by absorbing it. I recommend to at least get the upper heatshield for the JDM 4-1. It will make a big difference in underhood temps.
Would it be necessary if I were running the Spoon 4-2-1, and a Carsound Cat? And are there just upper heatshields and lower heatshields? Please let me know. THanks.
I wouldn't necessarilly say it's a vidal piece, but if you have an aftermarket cat eg. random tech, car sound etc. you will notice that your shifter center coundole area etc. get's really hot...from my experience...also as far as the heat shields on the header it just retains the heat...I would just remove them and use thermowrap...b/c w/ after market headers they don't have heat shields and w/ a aftermarket exhausts and cats then sometimes the stock heat shield will rattle which gets really annoying...again..from my experience...
There is no place to mount heat shields on any of the JDM headers except the OEM JDM ITR header. The only way you can do it is if you weld the headshields on. But why??? I'll be getting the spoon header also and carsound cat.
I mounted a oe jdm 4-1 upper heatshield above my dc jdm 4-1. It doesnt look bad at all, just had a couple brackets made and tap welded a couple nuts to the brackets to screw the bolt in. I'll see if I can post a couple pics.
