I just bought a short shifter for my 1990 civic.. I have installed short shifters on RWD cars before but i have never installed one or seen one being installed on a FWD car. so i would like to know how to do it. Right now i have the center console off my car and i have the boot off. Im stuck!! i don't know what to do from here. It look like i have to go from the bottom. Is this correct. Can someone please tell me what to do?
Thanks.
I would start by removing the center console then raise the car up and go under it and start unbolting the linkages at the shifter and just bolt the new one up and be sure to use lithium grease
There should be a few tutorials.
Anyways, a few tips:
1) lube everything with lithium grease
2) buy new bushings
3) torque everything down to the proper specs
4) once the shift linkage bolts are loose, the whole thing will probably hang by the rubber boot, the rubber boot can disconnect from it.
It took me about an hour trying to find a way to work around the rubber boot, then i found out you could just yank the damned thing off

thanks guys i got it in late last night. it feels great i love it. the throws are so much shorter and it goes into gear alot better. I used all purpose wheel bearing grease. i hope that isn't bad. but it seems to of worked fine. Thanks guys!
what kind did u get? i've had a cheapy ebay one which was nicer than stock, then i got a B&M which is damn sexy. i actually used bolt cutters and cut off the top 1/2 inch too. Its the distance between ***** that makes for the short throw, but i wanted to keep the shift boot nice and close to the ****, feels and looks great.
for the future..... all you need to do inside of the car is take the ball off.
i found it easiest to take the whole linkage off and change out the shifter in a vise and put it back in as a unit.
good job for figuring it out though.

im not to sure what kind of short shifter it is. My bro got it for me for for x-mis. It has a integra type R shift **** on it tho. Looks really good. It didn't take me to long to figure it out at all. all i did was climb under the car, undo the shift linkage and then take off the two bolts that hold on the plate that hold on the ball. I had my bro in the car to hold the top of the bolt thing with vise grips. Then i greased everthing up and put the new one in. If anyone would like pics of the new one put in ill get some tonight! put a post up asking.
