engine prob.. help

Default engine prob.. help

i have a 99 civic si and my engine oil light went on awhile ago so i filled it up with more oil. then i took it in for an oil change a few weeks after that. now about 4000 miles after i got my oil changed last my engine oil light came on again. it seems taht my engine is burning up my oil way too fast. can anyone tell me what is wrong exactly? thanks

the light could be alot of diffrent things, are you sure its burning oil not leaking? also the light may indicate not enough pressure so there could be a clog somwhere in the system.

thanks for the quick reply. yeah im positive its burning the oil not leaking. both times when the light came on. i had to put in almost 4 quarts of motor oil to bring it back to the normal level. it means my engine was almost bone dry...

are you running an stock block or has it been touch? try to do a compression test, maybe that would take you somewhere.

Do a leakdown test. That's the only to tell what's up with the motor.

depends on how hard u drive the car..i change my oil every 5k..and end d up seeing a half qt. burn off of oil each time..but..u may drive ur car harder than i do and the burn off may be a bit more..but, since changing to mobil 1..i have nt seen any oil burn off after 5k..still change oil atleast every 5k
