Put in thermal today and had muffler guy put in 3" test pipe...question
Well he did a great job. Turns out he doesn't have a mandrel bending machine like I thought he did, so he put a flange on my stock 2.5" DP and connected the new 3" piping w/ flex to my thermal(and also wastegate routed into it)....
Question is, Is there any possibility of me getting a full 3" downpipe for a revhard integra LS without losing my A/C? When he had the car up on the lift, I looked up in and noticed that the DP cleared the AC by at least an inch. I don't see how it would really interfere very much.
The car feels faster now, and I love how it's pretty silent at full boost, but I'm thinking that I would get even bigger gains if the dowpipe itself was 3". For an idea of how mine is now, picture Art's 3" downpipe setup but with the 3" part starting about an inch after the first 90 degree bend instead of before the 90 degree bend. I wonder what the losses are right there.

I don't know your setup, but a 2.5" DP should be quite enough for most applications under 15-20psi. A 3" DP will probably net you a few more ponies...but at the sacrifice of boost creep *that's if you don't have a good WG*.
BTW, post a picture of the setup. I'd like to see it too.

Guys after riding in it on the freeway... I'm tone deaf... it's damn loud!!! I had to raise my voice to talk to him.... but it def. spools good.. lol
Let me see if I can take some pics tomorrow or the next day.
Argggg....I was pretty pissed. 5 hours after getting it put in, I drove to Jake's house with the infamous driveway from hell.... Came in at a 45 degree angle, cleared the front end, but then it sounded like I scraped the underside of the car (which would be the brand new exhaust/test pipe)....I'll take a look at it tomorrow to make sure everything's ok.
Damn, even with the stealth option it's still pretty bassy and loud. I just drove for 45 mins and my ears are humming. I cannot imagine a regular 3" thermal.

Full boost is quieter than cruising. You basically hear the turbo and really can't hear the wastegate anymore.
Open wastegate days were cool as hell, but I think I like this better. Much more stealth.
Something I noticed is that I hear a high pitched whine sometimes when I'm on full boost going through 2nd/3rd. It's sort of faint......Hopefully it's just a sound from the turbo. I've never heard it before now.

dammit...my thread is getting moved along.....I will have pics, but I won't have them until this weekend.
I still want a 3" downpipe!
