Hmm, I dunno, The transmission and the engine share no fluids whats-so-ever, so I would have no clue how the sea foam would affect it. Maybe i'm wrong...bump cause i'm interested

seafoam is to clean carbon deposits off, and it shouldnt be put in the ttranny it breaks the oil down fast as hell, and the tranny doesnt seem like a good place to have broken down oil... but thats just me

wasnt put in the tranny it was sucked up thro the break booster vaccum line. Idk maybe because its been extremely cold lately who knows...I can tell it breaks oil down fast because i havent chagned my oil yet and when i let it sit for a minute or so idling it throws black stuff all over the ground

Seafoam has a, for lack of better words, 'sister' product called Trans Something or other. You can use it to flush you tranny. The should sell it where ever they sell Seafoam. I'm thinging about using it when I finally get my auto to manual swap done.

Seafoam Trans-Clean, made for auto's, but I dont see why you couldnt use it in a 5-speed. :\

hrm is it just me or does this post really not make any sense. You used seafoam in the engine. You even said that it was put in the engine via the vaccum line. *shrug* There isn't any way possible to get the seamfoam into your tranny without actually putting it in there also i know when its cold out my tranny is more notchy and it crunches gears occasionally. just my 2 cents

My experience with seafoam isnt much, but from how I gather, what it is made to do, go through the intake manifold, clean out the carbon buildup from the top of the pistons, and through hte intake manifold. How that would work in a transmission is out of my head, so I dont see it working, but who knows.

It's in your head. There's no possible way seafoaming your engine did anything to your tranny.

Yea it's obvious it had nothing to to with whatever your tranny's doing since it was physically impossible to come in contact with it. You will NEVER have a reason to flush a manual transmission with any product, just change the oil in it as it needs it. That oil doesn't get nearly as hot as engine oil and it doesn't break down like engine oil does. Manual transmissions don't get sludge built up in them. Automatic tranny's do get some deposits built up in them because they are subjected to high heat and pressures internally but flushing them isn't normally ever needed unless the fluid changes were GROSSLY neglected. Just change the fluid and filter in them and you're fine at the specified intervals.

If you are grinding try Syncomesh make sure you get the Friction Modified though it is better. Make sure you make that clear to the person at the dealership if you get it at GM thier counter jockies are usually morons from my experiences. It helped out my roommates tranny a lot.

If you change your tranny fluid in a 5spd on a regular schedule like your oil you should really have no reason to be flushing it because regular changes should keep it pretty clean and as long as you know how to shift and arent grinding your gears there really shouldent be any particles to flush out and I definately would NOT put sea foam in my tranny, thats a dumb *** thing to do, and as far as your third gear not grinding anymore you said it had been really cold lately, it could have to do with the tempature affecting the transmission oils thickness etc

Sorry to post twice in a row but this caught my eye after I posted above....

WTF dude I think your tranny is the least of your problems if this is happening? My God someone save that motor, change your oil and why would it be leaking out onto the ground?!?
