oil question??? help.
i noticed that my car has been using alot of oil lately. why is that? i recently changed my oil and everything. i used redline oils and alittle bit of lucas oil to top it off and then a week later i check and the oil is very low to the point were my vtech doesnt run right. So i put more oil in and then i check it like two days later and its very low again. i do drive my car out of town alot. but b4 it never did that. what could be wrong..the car isnt leaking as well.

You know redline oils do not have many detergents in them for street use and are made for race cars, right?
Ditch it.

Huh? You know redline makes race oil and street oil? http://www.myoilshop.com/RaceOil.html vs. http://www.myoilshop.com/HiPerfOil.html
I wouldn't recommend redline for street only but I doubt it's causing his oil issues.
JDMTopFuel, what weight redline are you running?

My head a splode...... https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch - there are all kinds of fun topics on 'oil' in this forum. Short answer - any good off the shelf oil will be fine... if you use M1, stick to a heavier weight (10w40) as the thinner stuff will burn easily. Castrol GTX is a good cheap alternative, I use castrol syntec 0w30 (made in germany, real synthetic - not the semi-synthetic the rest of the weights and brands except M1 are).

There is no consensus on that. Many of us use Mobil 1 and stick with the 5W30 viscosity that is recommended in the manual.
Do the search, read the old topics, and decide what makes the most sense to you...

Hi RJ.
This must be the least surprising exchange of posts on h-t this week.

Because you have an ITR. Burning oil is very common.
With any ITR, you should probably check the oil every time you fill the car up, until you get familiar with how much oil it uses for however many miles - and even then, you have to keep on top of it. Whatever you do, make sure the oil level is always between the two dots on the dipstick. The difference between the two dots is one quart - so if the oil level is halfway, you can add half a quart to bring it up to the top dot. Just don't let it get below the bottom dot, and you shouldn't be having any problem with VTEC or anything else because of the oil level.
However, one thing you really didn't specify - how many miles are you driving? In other words, how many miles does it take you to burn a quart of oil? If you're using a quart every 1000 miles, that's normal. If you're using a quart every 100 miles, you have a serious problem (unless those 100 miles are on the racetrack).

switch to the other oil and check back.. you have to inspect everything, leaks behind/underneath the engine. around filter, gaskets. if no leaks, then it must be getting through piston or valve seals. you can try compression test/leakdown although it can't tell the whole story but may narrow some things down. seems like **** load of itrs have oil loss. how agressive are you on your car? and as mentioned before my post, how often and how much does it consume per x amount of milage?

There's about as much consensus on that as there is for burning oil due to Mobil1 use
I burn less than 1/2 qt per 2/3 days on track, and none on the street (races).

Although you didn't specify yet, I'll guess that you weren't racing/tracking the car for that time period, and that you're burning oil like nuts. If that is indeed the situation, there's something wrong with your engine. Do a compression and leakdown test, then go on from there.

yah im not racing my car at all..i mean once in a blew moon i hit vtec but very rare..i just drive alot on the freeway going out of town. a hr drive atleast twice a week
Burning oil out of VTEC is also problematic, though I don't remember why. If you're not mechanically inclined, take it to a shop and have them check it out. Just to let you know, I had a similar problem, the "fix" was to rebuild the engine
