1300 miles on the build. 200 whp b18. crower valvesprings. Its been reved to 8500 many a time by now, but last night one spring just couldnt keep up and droped a valve.
the damage: holy piston, cracked sleeve, garbage head.

sorry to hear that. you only had 1300 on the build? damn, what cams where you running? i wish you better luck in the future, will you ever use crower valvesprings again or do you think something else might of caused this?

Installation flaw? Crower springs are great springs, rated to 10k RPM. I have me a set of them in my engine.

crower stage II cams. I dont see how anything else could have cause this. Im gonna throw the springs away, or melt em with an acetylene torch.
I should rephrase, it didnt drop the valve, but it caused it to float. The stem is still in the keepers.

how is that possible? I had a reputable machine shop install these. these springs are same upside/down right? And the intakes are the same as the exhausts.

I highly doubt it was the springs. I take my turbo motor to 9500 and it fine. I have around 10k on mine. The springs go in one way only. Did you buy the springs new or used?

Why does it have to be the spring's fault? Could be bad retainer, bad keepers, flat cam, valves not adjusted properly, hurt rocker arm, bad lma, worn out guide, on and on.
BTW, if you bought the CHEAPER Crower springs, you could have over revved it for that spring...don't cheap out when buying springs.

ok, yeah for some reason i also have bad luck with oem valves. i dropped a valve on my b18c1 when i put toda springs and skunk2 stg2 cams on it. it seems that oem valves are not strong enough to handle high rpm high lifts like these...

sounds like to me someone forgot to chamfer his springs
I hear about this all the time
if you dont chamfer, the sharp edges eat into the retainers and cause a failure

plus i dont see how a spring could eat into a forged titanium retainer.

not all OEM valves are the same either. ITR valves, for instance, are different from the rest of the b series valves.
