Have you seen any angle/side impact tests with the Hans?

The sled test footage which HANS provides on a CD with the purchase of the unit has some 30 degree/50g tests on it. There is also a 100 g (straight ahead) test on the CD which is amazing to watch. As far as I know, HANS is the only manufacturer to attempt and pass a 100g test (a 60mph velocity change).
Beyond 30 deg, the best lateral protection with any head/neck restraint is accomplished with padded cockpit sides in formula cars, or large lateral headrest and/or nets in sedans.

There was an article in the recent Sport Car magazine talking about lateral protection. One very economic device recommended by Dr. Melvin is a triangular Nascar net on the side of the driver's shoulder/head area.

Track rat is correct. Feel free to contact them and ask for the CD. I'm sure they will send it to you. Talk to Mark Hicks, and tell him I sent you.

Wow, those are waaay more expensive than I would have thought.
Is it because of the materials used or low production volume?

I don't know exactly why. But I would speculate the cost of R&D. All those tests can't be cheap.
I don't think it is ridiculously expensive. The price is comparable to ISAAC. It is definitely in the high side, but a good helmet cost about the same.

I'll bet the liabilty insurance soaks up a crispy C-note out the price of each one. Then they need to recoup the R&D expenses on a fairly small annual production run.

Funeral = $10,000
Powered Wheel chair = $4,500
HANS/ISAAC = $850 - $650

I hear a lot of racers say this. Then decide that head and neck restraints aren't worth the expenditure but turn around and head to the tire truck for a new set rubbers that last only a couple of weekends and only gain a couple of tenths.
