Does all of the engine block coolant get drained out?

You should drain the coolant from your existing engine as you will need to disconnect it from the radiator.

For the most part, yes you should drain as much as possible unless you want a mess on your hands when taking it out.

quick way to drain the block is to open up the plug on the front of it...
