trancaxle noice can't figure it out help
Input shaft bearing is more than likely the cause - if its just whirring. If you start to get a grind accompanied with that whirring, thats more than likely the bearing at the opposite end of the same shaft.
You'll need to drop the tranny in order to replace this bearing.
There are a few threads around here concerning this topic as it seems a common failure on D-trannys.

I put over 10k miles easily on the tranny while the bearing was just whining but when the grinding started, it sounded like the thing was going to grenade. I'll dig up a picture to show the damage....
