Had a small last night....I think I bent my tie-rod.....
Basically what happened is that I was driving home from work with the roads still being pretty slippery from the last snowfall that happened a few days ago. I was going about 15mph or maybe a little faster and had to make a right sharp turn. Instead of turning I slid my car into my curb. Afterwards when I checked to see what happened my car was a little messed up. My left front tire was toed in so my car kept pulling to the right until I got home. Luckily enough I wasnt that far away so I didnt have to call a tow truck or anything. I think I may have bent my left tie-rod. After jacking up my car when I got home I checked it out again and there didnt appear to be any visible damage or atleast anything broken. I think I got lucky by sliding into the curb as opposed to going straight over it. How much do you think a new tie rod would cost me and would it take long to install a new one? Im just trying to get a rough estimate so I know what to expect before I bring it into the dealership......Thanks....
part will cost you about $25 - $50. I did mine this weekend in less than an hour. it's super easy
you'll need an alignment afterwards though.

I just went to the dealership and found out it was actually the lower control arm being bent. Its gona cost me roughly $100 to diagnose if there is anything else that is bent and then the cost for a new one im guessing and then the labor for that. Damn I never knew hitting a curb at less than 20 miles an hour can cost so much......
Yeah, I did the same thing last winter. I just went and got an alignment though. It's been fine ever since. Just don't make the mistake I made and wait a couple months. You will ruin your tires. Good Luck.
yea, that's like one of the worst things. my friend has an old 92' taurus SHO and he hit a curb and bent his tie rod and his subframe. the repair was to cost nearly $2000, which was just about or more than the value of his car. so now he just drives it around all crooked and illegal. hitting curbs suck.

It actually didnt turn out to be my tie-rod it was actually my lower front control arm which really sucks. I need more than just a alignment..The dealership wants $800 to fix it so I said screw it and im getting the parts myself and have a friend help me out....

a front lca is very easy to change out, like 3 bolts out back, then take the shock off, and then pop the knuckle off the botom and unbolt it from the crossmember, i can do it in 45 mins with power tools, i just came inside from changing my outer tie rods and it took me about 10 minutes total... i guess im kinda fast but front ends are no big deal to me, sucks tho, igotta go change my inner tie rod too, damn it
I did a similar thing in the '80's to my '76 Capri. Fooling around in snow and hit a curb pretty hard. Found out later (10,000 miles later) that I had bent the sway bar. That car had a "true" MacPherson strut front suspension and with those the sway bar is an intregal part of the front suspension. I was so pissed off and cheap I refused to get it fixed and drove it like that for a l o n g time. Both front wheels were pointing in different directions with neither one pointing straight. I finally got sick and tired of my steering column vibrating my eye teeth out every time I put on the brakes so I broke down and got it fixed. They told be the sway bar was bent. I don't remember how much it cost to get fixed, but I had to get a new set of tires too since I wore out an expensive set of tires by being a hard head. I think the total for the suspension and tire fix was $600. This was a lot of money in 1982 and I was only making maybe $25000 a yeat (if that).
