Default breaking in motor problem?!?!?!

i got a brand new gsr block with type r head. im running on the aem stock map. i started with non detergent oil and then changed to regular. i have about 1000 miles on the motor now and it still burns a lil oil. there is also minimal smoke comoing out the tail pipe at times. i just heard now that running the stock aem map is bad and lets gas into the cylinders? i want to know because i dont want to loose my investment. anyone have this problem???

May as well just pull the motor and start over that is what happens when a motor untuned. Your pistons are probably scared. Pull your plugs and tell us the condition their in

COMPRESSION TEST and LEAK DOWN TEST before you do anything and make any assumptions. does it smoke on acceleration or on decel?

IE when you are at WOT does it smoke=RINGS, get someone behind you an have them look at it/smell for oil

or does it smoke when you coast down, then blip the throttle again?=VALVE STEM SEALS

how much oil is it burning?

more info needed

the last time i actually drove it, i drove it from fairfield to san jose and back, and it burned like a quart. no smoke when driving, just when starting, and everytime i start the car. it shoots out a lot of black carbon stuff. i ran on non detergent for like 100 miles.

Start up smoke would be valve seals. But valve seals won't go threw that much oil. Did you make sure to stager the ring gaps on the pistons?

Pull your breather line or filter off the valve cover and see how much blow by is coming out. If it is more than just a puff here and there the rings are shot. Could be from a number of diffrent reasons rings gaps aligned, to much gas washed out the rings, rings weren't filed and cracked or broke up, to much metal in the motor scared the walls of the cylinders, ect.

nothing comes out of the valve cover, this is giving me a headache, im not driving it again until i get a stock ecu in there. is it too late to save the motor with 1000 miles on it???

i had a problem like this...dont know exactly what it is yet...but i was burning a little oil and there was oil coming out of the exhaust port, and there was also oil on the spark plug...all of this was going on in cylinder 2...pulled the head off and took it to a machine shop...looked at the valve guide in the intake port and one of them had slipped about half an inch down, which means the valve seal could've fell off or out of the guide...there was alot of oil in the intake and exhaust ports in that cylinder too...so it could probably be a ring or a really bad valve seal...but i'll let you know for sure on monday when the machine shop calls me.

i too had similar problem with my h22a. i had oil coming from seal at crank pulley, plus i painted the *** end of my car with oil from exhaust. turns out i dropped #1 cylnder. compression was 170-210-165-40. but there were no abnormal noises, my rings just crapped the bed. everything else is straight, although motor is being freshened up with built head and new rings. if your car dosn't make any unusual noise, do a compression check to verify ring condition. leak down would tell you how head parts are doing. Good luck though!
you will run like spotted raped ape when tuned, too!
