Default Buddy Club Cams Problem ?

A friend of mine recently had his car tuned with BC3's, he is running 11.5 compression. *Motor fully built by Steve Saki* Tuning was done with Hondata. For some reason the car wouldn't make any power 160whp. We did a compression test and it was about 170-175 all cylinders. Then we put in a set B16 cams and the compression jumped to 200-210. Then put a set of skunk2 stg2 and the car runs fine. What do you think the problem might be ? I am running a B20/vtec with 12.5 compression and wondering if I would have the same problem, if I were going to use the BC 3's. So if anyone has possible solutions please post. Thanks in advance.

If your running any Stage 3 cam it's very important to upgrade the valve springs and retainers to stronger and longer units respectively. You may have had a loss in compression due to the bigger and longer cam lobes keeping the valves open slightly, somewhere along the valve train. The longer valve springs would get rid of this problem hense the reason the manufactures of these parts, try and push the sale of these products when purchasing stage 3 cams.

Or perhaps, I completely missed the solution to your problem entirely.

Aloha,
Brandon

That's strange. Anthony's R did 220 straight across on a stock bottom end and head with the BC 3+.

the bigger the duration, the cranking compression ratio will go down due to the valves staying open longer during the strokes of the motor. that is why when you run big cams, to fully take adavantage of them, you need higher compression.

for example: my friend had 14.1 comp. ration b20/vtec. the thing couldn't barely run on stock b16 cams due to the detanation. them he put some custom ground 310 degree duration cams and was able to drive it on pump gas. honest story. we are also in reno (4500 feet) which means our octane requirment is less than at sea level (5+points!)

If you have the stock ITR valve train Buddy Club claims it doesn't need to be upgraded, when using there spec 3 or 3+ cams. Did the other guy have ITR valve springs or better? Do you have ITR valve springs or better?

Did you readjust the valve lash sounds like they are not closing all the way

Where the cams degread when installed? Might be a bad camshaft off of the assembly line? I would like to know how they work out. I was thinking of getting the spec3+'s. They do seem cheap in price compared to others, so I am kind of sceptical.

You really need to run a loose clearance on those, alot looser than oem Honda specs. Recheck the clerance.

Omniman was running something like .08 / .09 on the clearances.

I think Katman mentioned something like .11 / .12 on the clearances based upon the mm -> inch conversions.

Stupid question, but for the hell of it, I'll ask anyways...Your friend does have adjustable cam gears, right?
