Yes, you can use one, you just need to run 4 wires total in and out of your distributor.

Bascially you will take the positive and negative wires going to your exisitng coil, and connect them to the MSD box. Then you will take the two MSD coil wires (black and orange i believe), and run them to the stock coil. There is of course a little more to it than that, actual wire colors are on the MSD site

 

That sounds like wiring up an MSD ignition box. Ive already got a digital 6. What I am talking about is on the MSD site on the page for their new distributor, there is a note on the bottom of the page that says "Note: External Ignition Module, PN 6305, and Coil,
PN 8235, must be purchased separately (not shown).
". What I am wondering is if the external ignition module PN6305 is an ignitor and can it be used with a stock distributor. I think that my stock ignitor is pooched and would like something that wont fry.

I would assume that your digital 6 box will work. It only needs some sort of trigger to make it fire.
