Default Best mods on B18C5 to achieve 200whp NA

Hey guys,

I'm eventually looking to swap in a C5 and my goal is to achieve 200whp. The car will be a weekend warrior with minor street use during the week. I'll be roadracing and maybe taking it to some autocross events. I won't be dragging that much, but I'm sure I'll take it to MIR a couple times each season just to hone my launching skills.

Does anyone have any advice on a setup that would produce 200whp on a C5? The engine is not in the car presently (actually it's not even purchased yet) so internal work is an option. It will be going into an EH2.

Thanks,

George

I/H/E and some tuning should get you there i would think. For AutoX i would be more concerned with drivetrain and suspension, you can sacrifice some money in HP and more than get it back in handling.

If internal work is an option, up compression. If you have a DEEEEEPPP wallet, and since your doing AutoX, consider a stroker kit. Gives you loads of torque and lowers the powerband down quite a few Rpms, better than trying to stick it way up in the 9000rpms constantly to have a good deal of power.

bah, no need for a stroker kit for autox. i got 194whp from my b18 with cams/springs and tuning. not quite 200, but close.

Is headwork really necessary? I know every little bit counts but the itr head is already pretty free flowing and it'll cost rougly an extra $1000 to do it.

Stock ITR heads flow pretty well so I wouldn't worry a whole lot abot it. I'd go with a set of cams like Skunk2 stage 2's, valve springs and retainers (required), cam gears, decent I/H/E, bump your compression up to somehwere around 11.5 to 12.0:1 and go with some sort of tuning like Uberdata, Hondata, AEM EMS etc, or at the very least a VAFC and you should easily hit your 200 whp.

Mild headwork=match porting and a valve job, You're looking at $500, max.

They should be matched to the gaskets. I promise you, most of the power for headwork on a streetcar comes from the valve job.

With stock compression you can see a huge gain with a set of stage 2 or 3 cams from any of the leading manufacturers. That aside, tuning is imperitive and an adequate - but not overkilled - I/H/E setup will push you well over the 200whp mark .

Wait, so a good I/H/E combo WITH tuning alone will see 200whp?

Obviously, I need to do more research on this topic (today is the first day) but it's nice to hear your opinions.

I'd say no. You'll need some good cams thrown in there as well... Asking the ITR fourm may help too, did you try posting there?

I haven't posted there yet. EG+ is home. I will though when I have more specific questions, don't want to **** anyone off.

I'm sorry, I was including the stage 2 or 3 cams in my suggestions . Sorry that wasn't clear.

lol I've asked questions in there before, they're pretty good guys and your question is pretty specific. If unsure you could always do a search in their fourm first and see what it turns up.

How much would he benefit from an ITB setup? This might be a good idea since its only a weekend warrior/minor use car.

Minor Use = I'd drive it to work/school maybe 2-3 days out of the week.

ITB's would make a big difference on that motor, I've seen what it's done on mostly stock B16's and it surprised the crap out of me. The challenge besides the cost of the ITB's tends to be in the tuning and getting them to run right. Maybe this is something he doesn't want to have to do??

He = Mr. Box

I'll need to speak with InlinePro about ITB's. I'm guessing they're not street legal correct?
