Default Fujitsubo RM01A boom...Testpipe ?

Hi,

About a year ago i fitted a test pipe to my JDM teg with the OEM 4 in 1 header and Fujitsubo RM01A cat back, and i had immediatelty noticed that the exhaust sound has changed it came boomier, raspier...............

I want my deep mellow tone back !!..........

Do you think that i will notice the decrease in performance when i refit my jdm cat?

Also how can i check if my cat is still in a good condition? Cause it has been lying in my garage for over a year now? Will this effect its performance?

Give me an opinion please guys......leave test pipe or fit cat?

Thanks,

I have a Fujitsubo RM-01A and a carsound cat. I have had no problems with the cat and the car sounds great...

I've noticed that over time, as with most exhaust systems, the packing inside the resonators tend to deteriorate and the loud booming/droning comes back.

This is also true with most resonated testpipes. Infact, some people like the noise making so much, they actually flood the exhaust with a garden hose overnite as it helps shrink the muffler packing.

Disclaimer: If you do this, and ruin your O2 sensor by submerging it , you suck......

You can contact R&D for a resonated testpipe. If you want the sound to be all mellow again, reinstall the cat.

so true. i assume that resonante test-pipes as well. currently, i am running the jdm dc 4-1 with a carsound cat and a spoon n1. anyway, the carsound cat has lasted me quite a while. ~ 20k. i have heard of them going out as soon as 12k.

a lot of it is how rich you are running and a little bit of luck. it's different for everyone, but relatively 15k-30k.

Thanks for the replies.

But is there a way i can check that my jdm cat is still in a good condition?

Could it be that it all clogged up or something cause i didn't use it for over a year...or is this a myth ?

Most cats burnout prematurely due to untuned cars running rich or cars that are burning oil. The Oil or Gas get into the catalyst material and clog it causing it to heat up more than normal and melt or break.

i am actually in the process of hacking my fujitsubo rm01a apart. i am going to put a turndown after the resonator. should spice things up a bit.....

i have ek4 with oem ek9 header, rm-01a and ek9 jdm cat. love the noise but then put on test pipe. did exactly as you describe - boomy as hell and kinda ruined the noise + annoying and much louder.

put cat back on and loved it again. much quieter/nicer, cant feel any difference performance wise but felt like i lost tiny bit of throttle response compared to test pipe. i recently got a resonated test pipe and love it. noise increased just a little bit but not boomy or annoying

Actually, a turbo would do a better job of keeping the raspiness/boominess down.

I run Tanabe Racing Medallion, no cat, turbo. Daily driver, it's not very loud, like a chambered performance muffler with a cat.
