Homestead, Autox - Sunday Dec.19th
Hey guys here's some pics that i took on sunday's autox and two crappy vids of my runs
I ran STS, on bald street tires(parada spec ii's 205/40/16) I had 205/50/15 Falken azenis but i had to tell them with my White ITR's when I blew the motor and needs $$ for the swap. Honesty, these tires are horrible for both the street and the track, although not as spongy as the ES100's they're
anyways, come feb. hoping to run some better tires.

Not too bad even with bald tires, i still classed and brought home a trophy. i had to negotiate the turns differently and take them a lot slower then i did with the azenis, but all in all it was good practice.

No, definitely not legal. He's also missing a passenger seat, making it even more STS illegal. Anyways, what's with the painter's tape along the hood seams? Why did your car get announced as a "Honda Civic Type-R?"

the tape was probably to assist in keeping the parts together in case of a collision to an element. i wrecked my R going into bushes.
btw, i think he has a Type R motor.

No way is this car STS legal.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
CF hood, No Passanger seat, 5 lug conversion, all no no's and I'm not sure whats under the hood...
But thats cool your having fun. But unless you put your seat back in your in like some mod class (DM i think) Or just put you seat in and run in SM.
Oh yeah lose the tape you arent going that fast to damage you lights or paint. Well at least where you have the tape.....
But glad you had fun

(Nice car, BTW, but...)
That setup would and should **** off the street mod guys.
I run my car in SM because of the CF hood and lightweight flywheel. I'm horribly outclassed, but I'm legit.

Hey guys thanks for all the good info, this was my first time autoxing since i swapped the motor so i didnt know what class to be in, last time i ran in SM2. I asked the tech guy when registering what class i needed to be in. He asked me what mods i had i told him "I have a Civic with a TypeR engine, motor is stock, no internals, stock header, i have an intake and i have an exhaust a carbon fiber hood and weight reduction" he looked puzzled and asked me "what class did you run in last time" i told him "SM2" so he started talking to some other guys there trying to figure it out i guess, so i asked him. "Where does a Integra TypeR with intake/exhaust/carbon hood and some weight mods class in?" he tells me 'are you running for champ points?" i said no, he said "alright we'll put you in STS" so thats how i got STS. I was running SM2 before with my SOHC. Dunno whats up with the announcer, i didnt hear him till i saw the video. I guess cause of what they wrote in my card?
I figured i was classed wrong but i've always been classed wrong, they dont seem to give a **** or to take the time to look at my car and class me correctly. I told him I wanted to be classed correctly because next year i would be running for standings, but whatever. They just want your $$$ and get you off the line asap, its ashame really, but whatever i went out there to have some fun, next year im running seriously.
I have a jap spec 00' B18C-R w/test pipe. The test pipe alone put me on SM2 last time with my sohc, and i told him that when he asked me class you ran in, blah. Anyways, where should i be then SM? or still in SM2 or DM? I dont mind running with my passenger seat, i usually do. I just dont want to depend on them for classing next time.

I figured if i remove the CF hood and test pipe and run with my passenger seat i should be able to run in whatever class a Integra TypeR would run in(Stock with bolt-ons), figuring i have the same HP/Brakes/everything as the ITR, dont see the logic in classing me higher just cause i started from a civic chassis, even though both cars would be identical performance wise(actually ITR has better handling but besides that)

If you took off the hood and put the seat back in, Street Modified I believe. An ITR wouldn't be in STS, it would be in STX, because of the LSD. In any case, a Mod class because of the engine swap.

point is, your car isn't a typeR..it's a civic with a different motor..you should be in sm no questions asked
also, typeR's aren't allowed in sts anyways..they are in stx

Thanks for help
I wasn't trying to run STS, though I have seen TypeR's run STS which just goes to show how incorrectly these people class. I just wanted to go where i should be.
SM it will be. Regardless of what class im in, the track times count all the same and besides, its the driver that makes the difference, not the car. Im competitive and i like to see how i do against other honda's thus my ITR remark.

haha, yea i get a bit funky with the tape. lol, tape on the lights cause we where autoxing around tree's, you can see them in the video. Tape on the side of the bumpers because they're already broken(the part of the bumper that holds the screw) so any smack and it tends to fall off, and the hood, i had nothing better to do so i taped it up :D it actually makes the hood flap less on the way home so whatever, yeh I use up tape a bit too much but bah it aint a show and i aint there to impress anyone, I just wanna drive!
but yea it was fun and a learning experience, got to really push the car and learn how to drive with the new engine at a track, need a LOT of work with my shift points and definetly need better tires O_O now if only i can find a set of 5x114 steelies :D

Some regions are not up to par with the rules. It's usually up to you or your competitors to make sure the game is fair.
Sm2 is mostly for 2 seaters. Although there are exceptions to the rules.
As people said if you put the passenger seat back in you would be ok for SM. Doesn't the car have to be emissions legal to run in SM?
PLus to run STS or STX the motor has to be the original motor or the like from factory and sold in the US as is.

most important thing, if you KNOW you're not classed correctly, let someone know. it's not that big a deal where you are, i guess, but where i am and we run 260 some cars, it gets darn important when there are about 25 people in your class, and for some reason it seems a car isn't supposed to be there. it's not up to them to class your car correctly, it is up to the competitor. it is also up to your competition to contest your car. if they dont, i guess you could continue to run in that class.
but the test pipe is fine in anything street prepared and up. it's not in STS because the rules are supposed to only really allow "street legal" style cars to compete. basically the rules are setup that you can take your car from the track, and go straight to an inspection station and pass.
besides, if cars don't make the times, drivers do, how come there's different classes anyways?
not flaming you intentionally, but i've been doing this for 4 years now, and i'm just trying to help you.. plus, when you run in the class you're supposed to, it actually mentally helps you out. cause there's stiffer competition.

yea i hear you, didnt bother me too much this year because i wasnt competing for points, it was more like test and tune through out the year as i was building the car so constantly getting my class changed. All i wanted was some seat time. My car's basically done so next year i'll be running for standings.
SM class runs mostly AWD STI's and a 400hp S4 with slicks(you can check out what cars run where in this local autox here http://autox.carlc.com/results.htm), stiffer competiton all right.

Your in SM, you can leave the back seat out, install passenger seat, no emissions and leave CF hood on. Don't worry about 400hp S4's or STi's it's the built M3's you have to worry about
Get some V710's or Hoosier A3S04's next year if you want to be competative.
Good luck

only problem with that, again, not to be an a, but other people that "may" have been competing for points and have an off day are behind you. so you could be stealing points from others. just a thought that has crossed my mind. i'm sure you wouldn't want it happening to you..
anyways, good luck next year, but sorry, i don't feel sorry for you as far as the competition goes. i will be campaigning my 86 Civic Si with a b16a in either SM or DM against caterham/lotus super 7's. btw, you can see my regions list of cars at http://www.autocrossers.org
should be fun for me! the super 7's are about 1200 lbs and have anywhere from 140-200 hp.
