When taking off vtec solenoid....
Hey... never taken one off of the head while the engine was still in...lol
When I pull that thing off to change the seals, should I expect lots of oil to pour out ? Just wanna know how many rags I should have handy... I'm taking the solenoid off the side of the head and will change both seals.
Thks

do it while doing an oil change, thats when i did mine. depending on how long your car has been sitting will depend on how much oil will come out. my car only sat for 30 minutes before i took it off so there was more than a drip or two. just keep a couple of rags on top of the tranny just below the solenoid to catch any spills.
you're not serious about changing it while the engine is running right?

Just trying to make the day interesting....hehehehe
Thanks for the input... I'll throw down some rags after letting the engine sit for an hour or so.

hahahaha!
oh yeah, you might want to loosen the top half bolts while the solenoid is still connected to the head. my hands were all oily when i did mine and so i couldn't get a good grip on the solenoid, so i reattached it to the head to loosen the bolts holding the top half on.

That's what I figured.
Thanks for the tips and responses... losing almost 2 qt's in 1000 miles wasn't fun.

Thanks for the input guys... barely a drop came out of the orifaces, so no oil cleanup...kewl.
The gaskets for the solenoid were brittle and flat as pancakes ! No wonder I've been getting that massive buildup of residue. I was tempted to polish the top section of the solenoid... but didn't have time.
