My car broke down , prior to there was no sign or any sounds when i try to start it i turns over but its not the normal sound that i would expect kind a fast turning of the starter ?? any clues ? thanx

 

Don't know if it's a broken timing belt but if it is and your trying to start it, you could be damaging your valves. If you think it may be a broken timing belt then pull of the valve cover off and maybe upper timing cover and take a look. If it's still there and tight then you know it's not your timing belt.

 

how did it break down??? what happened just prior to the car dying???

 

Visually check to see if your timing belt is broken. If it is and you've been trying to start it, you may have done some serious damage. Otherwise it just sounds like your starter is going bad.

 

I was going about 45 and it just like some body turn off the ignition

 

Well if it's your belt and you were doing 45, you're fucked Check the rotor in your dizzy also

 

yeah i checked the belt and its shreaded into pieces when it happened it didnt make any bad sound and when i tried to start it didnt make any metal grinding so how do i find out if there is any damage to the head , valves or anything else ???is it worth trying to put a timing belt on this ??

 

That sucks. You can either pull the head and visually take a look or you can replace the timing belt and then do a compression test.

 

easiest way is to pull off the rocker arm asembly and do a leakdown test

Not that I know of. Someone did a write-up on here on a Del Sol which would give you an idea of whats needed to be done but it's not exactly the same. I would say invest in a manual. Preferably a Helms manual but a Haynes or Chiltons should have instructions on how to do a timing belt change. If you plan on doing more work like this on your car I would say invest in the Helms manual. They are way better than a Haynes or Chiltons and you won't be disapointed. It has very detailed instructions and diagrams to help whatever it is you are doing to your car. If you buy the manual just to do a timing belt job, the manual will have paid for itself in that one job and then basically save you money every time you use it after that.

 

how do i line up the crank pulley with the camshaft since it broke and the timing is off are there some sort of marks ??

 

yes, there are marks that align the gears and pulley to TDC. The Helms manual shows detailed pictures of what they look like, I don't know about the Haynes or Chiltons manuals though.

 

I have a Haynes manual and a Honda Factory manual for my Accord. I just did a timing belt two weeks ago on the F22B2. The job is straight forward, but the engine placement is such that the most difficult part of the job was removing the lower half of the timing belt cover.

The Haynes manual does show you how to align all of the pulleys.

How many miles were on your timing belt before it broke?

 

i dont know i bought the car with 175000 it had about 200000 when it broke, when i looked at the timing belt it was in a rough shape and on top of that when i broke down it was in front of a CIA entrance so they searched me and the whole nine it wasnt very pleasant. does hains manual give you pretty good explanation of the timing belt for some one that never done it before ????

you probably should have replaced it when you bought it. Honda recommends replacing the timing belt every 90,000 miles. So if the previous owner(s) did the scheduled maintenance then you should have replaced it at ~180,000 miles. Unless the previous owner did it before selling it to you which is doughtful since most people won't spend that kind of money on a car they are going to sell.

 

The Haynes manual is very good for the DIYer.

What year is your Honda and what engine do you have? I’m curious because I had to make a special tool to hold the crankshaft pulley while using my 2’ breaker bar to break free the crank pulley-retaining bolt.

 

can you describe the tool or draw a picture ?? because im about to get to the pulley and i heard its the hardest bolt to get off from the whole car thanx.
