Car building notes...
Much progress on the race kaar. Electrical is over 90% done, oil cooling 100% done, fuel system 100% done.
Exhaust system assembled, and hanging with tie-wraps - to be welded.
After freezing in the garage this weekend, I have a couple of frustrating items to report:
1- dropped the front cross member to get header in place. re-install cross member. no problemo. Started installing the lower radiator hose. Should have done that BEFORE re-installing the front cross member. !@#$$ I spent about 30 minutes ******* with it, and gave up. I will be dropping the front cross member AGAIN. Grrr.
2- The clutch dust cover. I got one used, doesn't seem to be the right one. Probably off of an automatic. Ordered new one from Majestic. Either way, I'm going to have to pop off the axle to install it. Argh. At least, I hadn't tightened the axle yet.
I am still hoping to get the car started 1/3/05. Crossing fingers, and seriously thinking about firing up the ol' kerosene heater.

If you are talking about the crescent shaped cover plate that sits on the inboard side of the tranny, I didn't run one for 18 races or so - bent the crap out of it taking out the tranny the first time and never bothered to replace it. Justified it as cooling
But popping off axles ... come on SJ. Compared to the other things you can "have" to do, taking apart the front suspension 20 times is the fun stuff and popping out an axle, just get a pry bar and its a 20 second affair.
best of luck

yeah, you're right phatty. It's not that big a deal to pop off and re-install the axle. It's just that I have been working on this thing for a couple of years now, and I am finally seeing the end of it. I am getting anxious and nervous about starting the damn thing. And I have already assembled/dissassembled the front suspension quite a few times. This time I had everything nice and torqued down.
I'm just whining a bit. don't mind me.
Interesting about running without the cover. I would be more concerned about water and dust/grass/gravel, etc. getting in there when I go off track. (notice the "when", not "if")

Good luck with everything...during my motor build a few things have also magically disappeared
Some of them being the inspection shield and the aluminum brackets that go from the tranny to the block (if anyone has these laying around for a B18C1 let me know). The crank pulley and exhaust bolts are missing too but a friend had those
I also re-did the whole suspension, brakes and anything I could think of
My B-day is the day you want to get your car running by! So I wish you the best...

PAH! Started that a week ago. My goal is VIR in Feb. We shall see. Parts getting here on time will be my main concern.
