crx rear defroster question
so how do you guys know when it's on? is there a light or something? cuz right now I cant tell when I push it if its on or off or even if it's working cuz the dude before me put on some crappy *** tint.
and also, say it's on, then you turn off the car and turn it back on is the defroster still on or off?
let me know cuz these little stuff annoys me. and I wanna know if mine is working and when it is on or off. thanks

There should be an orange light. I've noticed it takes a few seconds for the light come on. The light can burn out.
Try this and report back. Get a voltmeter
Look in the lower corners of rear window. + terminal is on the drivers side and - is on the passenger side. See if there's 12V from + to ground. If not the defogger relay is bad or there's an open in the wiring.
If you have 12V check continuity between - terminal and ground. If no continuity check the defogger ground wire.
Once you figure out what happened you can test each heat strip. Put + lead in middle of heat strip and - lead to ground. If you have 6V the heat strip is broken on the - side from the center. If you have 0V the heat strip is broken on the + side from the center.
Defroster automatically turns off when car is off. Confirmed with a voltmeter.

what year CRX?? On mine it would show a light on the button (91 CRX SI). So I assume yes there should be a light on the button itself. And if he did the rear tint he could have wrecked the rear defrost. He could have accidentally broke the connection on it.
Get what I am saying?

How to fix
1. locate the break in the heat strip. Clean are with steel wool then alcohol.
2. Put cellophane tape above and below the break.
3. use a brush to apply a coat of silver conductive paint. Dry 40 min.
4. Make sure you have 6V in the middle.
5. Apply 2nd coat and wait 4 hours remove tape.

I think the orange light on my button is burned.
anyways the main thing is let's say defrost is on. then turn car off. then turn car on. now is the defrost on or off? the answer to that question will help me figure everthing out.

Okay right now theres one of you saying when you shut off your car the light goes off and when you turn it on the light goes on and one saying that when the car shuts off the light will go off but when you turn the car on it stays off.
Well from my experience with my 91 CRX SI it did stay on. Can people state the year of there vehicle? Maybe its just the 88-89, 90-91 bug

If its on and you turn the car off it will be off for good. Plus I think it has a time of like 20 minutes before it auto shuts off. Since your's is tinted/light doesnt work, best way to tell if it works is to see if the snow/fog melts and what not.

Auto shuts off after a time limit.

Same here, I'll push the button and only after a few seconds will the light turn on. This is also for my 88 crx.
