Default have a question about air conditioning belt?

Hello I have a question about my air conditioning belt... The belt itself is beginning to fray, as in the picture below.....

Now the air conditioning isn't working anyway so I was wondering if I could just cut the belt as It looks like that is all that belt is driving? Could I do that with-out affecting the operation of the car? Or will that cause problems with running the engine?

I would like to do this until I get a chance to have the air conditioning fixed. Please help me with this dilemma.

Any advice would be appreciated.. thanks....

you can cut it or just loosen the tensioner. Its not gonna hurt anything.

AC PS and the altenator are all on seperate belts. Some people say that it will "free up" hourse power as the car does not have to push the belt around.

my guess is that the clutch would engage but since it wouldn't be spinning there would be no coolant flowing and therefore no cold air would come out.......kinda like if you try and turn the air on without the car running?
