Shock Problems
Hey what's up guys, well I installed some eibach ground control springs on my 1990 honda civic hatchy about 6 months ago over stock shocks, they told me they would wear out alot faster because of the lower ride height, but I didnt care Beacuse I was going to get some new shocks anyway... Well now they are ruined so I installed new tokico blue shocks, I reinstalled everything how the stock Shock had originally, but when i'm driving, and i hit a bump there's a rattling noise inside the engine bay... What im thinking is that the spring got so compressed from the old setup due to the worn shock that it kinda stayed like that so when i installed the new shock, the spring is just suppporting about 10% of the total car weight or something. That's my best guess, can you guys help me out? The Next thing im going to try out is to raise the car back to original ride height which im trying to find out right now, well i hope i dont have ruined springs they were kinda expensive.....
Your shock doesn't hold your car up the spring does so it will still have all the weight on them.
Did you tighten the 14mm bolt on the top of the shocks properly....check if they are loose. Or the 2 14 mm top cap bolts.
How low is this car exactly anyway?
If you want to check if its your spring that is rattleing around , what you can do is put a spare tire on the side you think is rattleing. Then put the car on the ground, the spare tire is so sort that it allows you to stick you hand inbetwwen the tire/fwender to grab the spring and shake it around. With the car on the ground you shouldn't be able to shake any of the springs around. If that spring rattles then they were mostly too short and not for your car anyway....not your fault.

My car isnt that low looks like from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender its about 15 inches, but i found something else out; when i was checking if all the bolts were tight i noticed about an inch of space in between the car body and the 2 rubber mounts that go on the shock piston, is taht normal? im geussing thats waht makes the rattling noise, if theres space for the shock to move around, it will, do you guys know of any ideas of how to fix this? or is my car too low to the ground, i think it isnt too low beacuse i can get in and out of speed bumps easily w/out slowing down too much thx so much for posting guys
