Your on the right track... Juust takes practice. Its looks to me like you need to add just a touch more filler rod and your godd to go... Use this as a guide...

Not bad at all for the first try. Try and get the steps a bit closer together, kinda like in the pic posted by Untitled, above.

Ok so I gave it another try today and used a bit more filler rod. I think Iam getting the hang of it now but Iam having a hard time getting a straight line. I guess practice makes perfect.

That looks a little bit better, but it looks like you're rolling to one side, dabbing wire, rolling to the other and dabbing wire. Don't do it that way....lay the wire down and just roll back and forth, melting it down as you go. This will hopefully keep it from being so lumpy. Also, as you improve the technique, speed up a little and use more heat. Heat, alone, will usually make a weld smoother and reduce lumps.

So are you just supposed to sink the tungsten back into the cup and rest the cup directly on the metal to do this?

I think so, ive tried it and I dont care for that method of tig welding, i cant see what the metal is doing.

No, you don't sink the tungsten in the cup. You rest the cup on the metal, but you want enough tungsten protruding from the cup so that it is at about a 30-40 degree angle, pointing towards the direction of travel. You should have no problem seeing what's going on unless you do put the tungsten in too far, or you're in the wrong position to see.

So you just barley stick the tungsten out and lay the torch over on the side so that the edge of the cup sits on the metal? I was always told to keep the torch at a 70-75 degree angle....wouldnt this throw that off?

what kind of a speed should you be going at while doing this...im guessing i go too slow is part of my "too hot" problem? is the filler rod constantly in the puddle or is it dabbed as you go along? are the zig zags done close together or fart apart?
