why do i redline so early?
i have an obd-2 jdm b16a in my 92 cx and i redline a right before 7000. Why is this? and whats the best ecu for this motor cuz i'm running a p72 right now.

You redline before 7000 ...lol?..you mean lose power? The right ecu to run is the pr3. Are you running obd2 or 1?

pr3 = non OBD. the correct obd1 B16 ecu is the P30. i ran a chipped p28 won my old b16

hahah sorry man..my bad. Yea..it is the p30.
EDIT.....NO wait, i was right pr3 ecu's came as obd 0 and as obd 1..... the obd 1 pr3's are a highly wanted ecu. This is what i remember.

Yea man you are right anthony. The obd1 pr3 was found in 92-93 integra zsi (170hp b16). <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jlacoy82 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Maybe you are redlining early because you are nervous, or cant perform under pressure. i skimmed the thread.... i didnt see it mentioned. but it youre in limp mode, your redline is automatically reduced to 6800. if you have a CEL you need to get that taken care of.
it all depends on who you get the computers from.
limp mode is when your car senses that there is somethign wrong with maybe the fuel system, or the o2 sensor, or anything that could possible cause harm to the car that would also throw a CEL. limp mode is basically a safety mode that honda programmed into the computers. when it senses something wrong. like fuel delievery. it will automatically go into a rich fuel state, and your redline will lower, and you wont have VTEC. only to prevent bad things from happeneing

my friend, who i do all the work on his car, has a 93 vx with a 91 b16a in it. he originally had a 94 p72 on it. he ran a 14.9 1/4 mile, we put a p28 with a skunk2 program on it and now he runs 14.22. no other changes. our guess is the p72 fueled his b16 too much. oh he was also getting horrible gas mileage. while its not great now, it is better. haha and now the p72 is chipped on my h22. and yes you are in limp mode.

Why not just use the right ECU???
If you have a B16...run an ECU from a B16. If you're OBD1, go find yourself a P30 out of a JDM Civic SIR or a USDM Del Sol VTEC (or a chipped P28 works too, look into that trade someone offered you)
If you have a B18C...run a p72 (read: GSR ECU!!)
If your B16 was good running on a P72 ECU, Honda wouldn't have made the P30. Or vice-versa

Yea...that is is a good point. If you motor is mild to stock...run the right ecu.

I have the same problem as him. I have a b18c (jdm gsr obd1 out of a 94-95) and running the ob1 p72 jdm ecu that goes with this motor. its running in limp mode also but with no cel. i even jumped the ecu to check for a code and there was nothing. soemtimes it revs to 6800, sometimes 7500. i have a usdm p72 on the way to try... i think this ecu just might be fucked.
edit- vtec engages and so do the secondaries.

Try and reset the ecu?

Must throw this in:
Redline is when going above said RPM risks engine damage and no longer makes power.
Limiter is when your car will not physically pass a given RPM because the ECU cuts off fuel.
Now that we're on the same page here, continue on.
