Turbo problem...rattling noise...
well the problem is that my buddys non ball bearing turbo seems to have a rattling noise coming right from the turbo when his rpm is above 2,200 & below 2,900 rpm. if it's beyond 2,900 it sounds fine and if it's below 2,200 it's fine too. but between it rattles like fawk. It's getting oil for sure & oil pressure gauge is reading fine and it's water cooled too.
I though that it has some shaft play, but I jiggled the compressor blades and it's nice and tight no play at all not even a millimeter. It seems to spin fine too when I spin it with my fingers & it spins just like it should.
It's making 8 psi at full boost (that's what the wastegate spring is set at) and the car pulls strong as hell too.
I'm stumped....?????

sounds like its slightly out of balance...maybe a nick on the inducer blades inside the compressor housing, etc. take it apart and check the inducers and exducers.

Sounds to me like it's just something rattling during that rpm range, like on any motor (turbo or not) Could be a loose nut or something, and that rpm range is where it rattles. But it could be anything, took me a while to find the internal wastegate flapper was a lil loose and rattled against the seat.
