Default About to purchase a wannabe mini-me

yO since u peeps are the only ones that i know of that have built successful mini-mes and i dont know of anyone in my area...should i buy this half-*** mini-me? I knew the guy wasnt gonna be able to pull it off, eventhough he thought he was gonna. He took it to a local shop and they didnt even wanna look at it cuz he moused so much **** on it. Im pretty sure me and my buddies can get it to work but im not sure.

Well its a z6 port and polished head on a a6 block. Theres mad oil spilling everywhere,I think he didnt know how to put on a headgasket. He was gonna stay OBD-0 so he tried modifying his dizzy to fit the head, he told me grinded it but its didnt work or somethin. It comes w/ the ZC tranny,half-shaft and axels. My plans are to get this thing running perfect an i want to go OBD-1. He wants $250 for it. So let me know or Any info./comments are appreciated. TIA.

As long as the parts themselves are in salvagable shape its worth it. You can always piece 'em out if he didn't **** anything up too bad. I say try it, who isn't down for a new project at that price? - Darrell

If it is just bad seals and maybe a bad distributor, I would probably go for it. Seems like it is salvageable.

dont buy it until you determine the fault. remove cylinder head and inspect for piston/valve contact. the valve reliefs on d16a6 pistons do not match the width of the d16z6 valves. z6 vtec mechanism forces the valves .250" further apart. if this guy cranked it over a few timing belt teeth off, its smooshed the valves shut.

has it ever ran? doesnt sound like you know enough of its history to make an educated decision.

check to see if the head was installed with the oil control orifice of the a6 still installed inthe block. it should have been removed as they are inside the z6 head IIRC

LOL, that is probably true! I know I had mine done at a machine shop in San Jose, and at least a couple guys I know have had theirs done as well.

Guess everyone wants the port and polish coolness, myself included

What I'm saying is that probably only 50% of the ones advertised as 'port and polish' actually have the work done; most sellers know a buy is too lazy to yank the head and look for themselves.

Well most ricers would probably just buy a motor and believe what the seller tells them...Also do u have a port and polished head?

I saw the head before it was installed and yes it was p&p. u can tell it has some sort of machining to it by the pics...

If it was cheaper I'd think about it but hell 250 spent on a motor that my be ****... I'd tell him to pull the head and go from there.

most "port and polish" jobs are simply a shmuck with a dremel and some sanding flappers shining things up. fluff work that is worthless regarding BMEP/chamber mix homogenous(ness)

the other half of the cheap headwork is simply done wrong. its easier for the carbide to mess up a 16V import head that to improve one.
