It did, and still does slightly which is why I have hood pins. It's a single layer of CF w/ a bare bones fiberglass support structure. You can see the sun through the hood from underneath. It's light as hell. I am not positive on the brand b/c I think I am the 3rd or 4th owner......

i HIGHLY doubt that info. in fact, i would put $ on it that it does not.
the following weights were taken by me on a load cell scale
oem hood (painted r-81 red with squirters) 31.4 lbs
generic cf hood 20.8 lbs (if i am not mistaken, it was the old sunny styling)
super lightweight 1 layer fiberglass hood was 11.0 lbs even.
attached is a pic of the hood before it was painted. the lightest hood i could possibly find, still retaining an underhood skelotol (sp?) structure. it was see through it was soo thin. it is a generic hood, although i have heard a few claims from a manufaturer that their hood have similiar weight. my particular hood was a one off custom.

I am just guessing. It feels like it weighs much less than a 10lb dumb bell; but the size/shape plays a major role in that, and I would venture to guess that my weighing skills are as accurate as my butt dyno is
. But, the skeltal structure isn't much, and you can easily see sun light through the single layer of CF.

I'll have to agree with Rodney on this one. There is no way your CF hood weighs 5 lbs unless it's a thin sheet of CF with no skeleton at all.
And btw, here is a gem by Rodney about how to really lose some weight up front.

i've seen a one ply dry carbon hood before...insane light. idunno about 5 lbs. but it had to be 10lbs max.
but most cf hoods are about 25 lbs i'd guess

Yea most cf hood weights about 25-30 lbs. No way in hell your cf hood weights 5 lb. My fiberglass hood weight 14 lb with packaging and this is without interstructure.

I'm going to have to second the motion:
buy a braille auto racing battery - it's about the same weight loss (maybe even a little more), for $150.
Or, but both ;o)

well, in my particular case, the hood was so thin that when latched, it would "twist" the hood. no matter how much i adjusted the latch, including opening the adjustment holes up, i could not stop the hood from twisting and throwing the alignment off when latched. so, i just removed the latch entirely and run just hood pins. safer that way anywhom.
