How To: Tell if you tranny has an LSD?

1.) It is marked LSD on the case
and/or...
2.) If you look through where the axles go in you should be able to see straight through to the other side- there isnt going to be a bar in the center.
Is this true for all transmission with oem and aftermarket LSD's? and both hydro and cable transmissions?

almost, your on the right track though. if you jack it up and put in 1st gear, then rotate either front tire the other should spin in the opposite direction

if you look at a diagram of a helical lsd setup you have the left shaft then the left "side gear", then the right "side gear" and the right shaft. then surrounding the this gear set you have four long pinion gears and four short pinion gears that mesh together to create the frictional energy used to operate the lsd. when the lsd is not engaged then the side gears rotate in opposite directions. you can look it up in a helms and it will give a realy detailed list of functions and operational checks, etc.
