Default Z6 Swap

Alright, i have a 89 civic dx with a 95 d16z6. Everything is wired obd0. Im using all si components with vtec wired through an auto gage tach and its slow, im not expecting it to be ungodly fast because its d-series, but its slow the revlimiter is kicking in at 6500 rpm, so i was wondering if you guys could tell me what could be wrong with it. I dont want to here convert to obd1 because i dont have the time or the money. There is a kid in my town with the same setup in a crx and it pulls alot harder than mine does. Oh and by the way the motor ran 15.6 in a 95 Coupe w/I/E with full interior and in my car probably mid 17s please help thanks josh

maybe try and get your rev limiter closer to your redline? most of the vtec motors have power around that zone heh... but I dunno someone else should know better than me.

what ecu are you using?? z6 redline should be higher than 7k...

EDIT... you make your most power at 6600 rpm. redline should be at 7200.

You should just give up on it and sell it to me for 100 bucks ........yeah if you are using the dx tranny that will slow ya down a lot.....an 88-91 si or 92-95 ex tranny are worth their weight in gold

ok, first off - the transmission has nothing to do with the rev limiter being hit at 6500 rpms, and also the dx tranny has nothing to do with it either. i have an hf transmission attached to my z6 motor right now while i fix my si tranny and it pulls just as hard as it did with the si tranny. the first thing you need to do is figure out if the vtec is even working or not. you say you have it hooked up to a tac???? that doesn't make sense to me, but if that is how it is suppose to work, then i would still check that out. what you should be doing is getting a vtec controller or activation switch, which you can pick up through msd. now, what ecu are you using? you say you are using all si components, does that mean you are using the si ecu, or do you still have the dx computer in the car? although, i would assume you are using the si ecu and you have converted to multiport injection. it honestly sounds like your vtec is not working, so you are not getting the extra power out of the motor. i would start with checking that. hope some of this at least helps. good luck.

he's using an si ecu... the tranny can make the car feel slower. longer gear ratio=slower acceleration. i would think the tranny is a large part of the problem with the acceleration. if the z6 came stock in the coupe that ran 15s then the coupe had a much better tranny for acceleration. your dx tranny will get you some great gas milage but i wouldn't bother drag racing on it. i don't know what's wrong with the cutting out at 6500. the only thing i can really suggest is to go back and do the swap the right way. convert to obd1 so it runs like stock... the proper way. sure its more costly and more work but, OBD1>OBD0. best of luck, chad
