hey i put some brake pads on my 94 ex last summer and when i changed them the last time the drivers side pad wore out weird.. the bottom work out before the top and the passanger side ones were koo... now these pads are wearing out the same and i gotta change these out.. when i change these i'mma put some brembo blanks and some axxis ultimate pads.. does anyone know why the drivers side would wear like that??

 

Are you missing any of the pad hardware? Are both retaining clips in good shape?

thats what i was thinking, the retaining clips

possibly the brakes aren't setting in flush with the rotor because the clips aren't "retaining" properly

makes sense anyways

 

yup they were in good condition when i last put the other ones on.. nothing missing

 

your caliper could be slightly hanging up just enough to cause abnormal pad wear

It means that the caliper slider bolts may need to be cleaned and re-lubed so the caliper will slide properly and evenly to engage the brakes. If this isn't done everytime the brakes are changed, they can "hang up" and not engage evenly and cause uneven pad wear or even drag causing the car to pull to one side because the caliper doesn't release properly.

 

koo thanks guys.. i ordered my blanks last night and i'll be ordering my ultimates from my friend.. so when everything comes in i'll be lubing those things up real well..

 

If cleaning the pins doesn't work then it's time for a new caliper.

 

have you checked all the lines from the master cylander, it may have a pinch or a slight tear, that could be a cause

Here is a writeup I did for a friend on cleaning & preping used rear calipers for install. Fronts are almost exactly the same (w/o parking brake), so you shouldn't have a problem following the pics. Hope this helps you...

Only work on one side at a time, so they don't get mixed up. First unbolt the caliper completely & hang it in the wheel well. Now reinstall the pin, and make sure you can push it all the way in. The grease will create an air pocket at the botom, so you may have to work the pin back & forth to get it in all the way. Next, with the pad retainers (#28) installed on the bracket, test fit your brake pads (only use new pad retainers). If they can't move around in the bracket without effort, grind the ends of the pad ears down. Use a file or grinder until they move smoothly. Next clean up the ground area w/ some sand paper & wash them off. Now put disc brake grease onto the pad retainers & the ears of the brake pads. Now lube the pad springs (#15) where they touch the pads (only use new pad springs). Then just reinstall everything w/ a little bit of red brake goo on the piston/caliper contact surfaces, and repeat this whole thing on the other side.



Once your done, slowly drive the car & make sure everything works. Next you must "bed in" the pads (this may get rid of the noise problem by itself). Drive the car and make 4 or 5 medium pressure slow downs (don't stop the car) from 50mph to 10mph. This will start to heat up the brakes. Now drive around for 10 to 15 minutes wile using as little braking as possible (this is the pain in the *** part). Now make 4 or 5 heavy pressure stops from 55-10mph (be prepared for brake fade). Once this is done, drive around for another 10-15 minutes to let the brakes cool down. Now park the car for a few hours w/o using the parking brake. This will let the pads temper. At this point there shouldn't be any noise or problems. If noise still persists, I would suggest returning your pads because they may be defective.
