Part Number/Work Order Number 62404
Engine Application ACURA 1.8 LS/RS
Grind Number 243-237 D0HC
ADVERTISED CAMSHAFT SPECIFICATIONS:

INTAKE: Duration: 243º Lift: 0.445 Clearence Hot: 0.006
EXHAUST: Duration: 241º Lift: 0.434 Clearence Hot: 0.008

That's from crowers site. It shouldn't be hot though. I'd just wait till you get the cams and it will come with a spec sheet.

if those numbers are for hot then what would be safe when cold? does increasing the space make the valve tighter or looser? i know if they are too loose they will tick at idle? so if i tighten them up i need to raise increase the space or decrease it?

just do it hot, let the engine warm up for 20min and then do the valve lash.

Setting the clearance smaller makes the it tighter.

i am going to go with the stock specs to set the valve clearance. and im going to do it when its running cold. should i set the valve lash tighter than stock spec or looser? why? how much tighter or looser should i set the valve lash? how much too tight or too loose can i run the valve lash before i have to worry? does anyone have 404 cams in there setup? i have stock bottom b20z and need to know how much i can tighten the valve lash. can anyone help me please?

I really don't understand why you want to blatently set the valve lash wrong?

I have 404s, set it to what crower recommends and set it when the engine is hot.

If that is too complicated you really shouldn't be doing a cam install in the first place.

everyone tells me to run it dead cold. i have read many post where all people have it set when its cold. the helms manual says to do it when its cold too? but i guess you should know because your the person everyone says has good numbers with those cams. so i will just go with what you said then. thanks

I thought valve adjustments were set cold b/c once the engine warms up the metal expands. Correct me if I am wrong, thanx.

Anyway Crower recommends that you set the valve lash to .006 Intake, and .008 Exhaust. I wouldn't vary too much if at all from what crower recommends.

Yeah, some manufactures and OEM specify that you should set the valve lash cold for that reason.

However if the motor is warmed up, the internals should expand to relatively the same point (for all practical purposes) so you can also set the lash hot as well. I don't know why crower has HOT clearances instead of cold specificly, but I would venture that it probably has to do with the accuracy of having the clearances dead on when the engine is running vs when the engine isn't.

The cams also might be made with different grades of material than OEM, and may expand/contract differently.

The crower card that came with my cams specificed hot clearances.

i would think it would be more accurate if you did it cold.

stock specs are .004 Intake and .007 Exhaust when cold

if you were adjusting them when hot, youll be accurate on the first one, but each one the motor is getting colder and colder, so the metal will slowly shrink, so youll have your 1st and 3rd cylinder be right on, but by the time you get to 4th and 2nd, it wont be so accurate

i always set my valve lash cold. and i found .005in .006ex COLD works well and sounds the best with my crower cams.

you can run it how crower recommends but its to loud for my tastes.

I know I had 403's before my 404's! That just seems tight clearances to me for the exhaust side!

I might try that then, b/c my valvetrain is too noisy now
