The R's back from the body shop, but there's something strange...
I got a new rear bumper cover because someone rear ended me a while back. Well anyways, the car looks new again when I drove it home, but when I inspected it in my garage, I noticed a bunch of small grainy particles stuck to the underside of the back of the car. It's all over the top of my exhaust. On the rear sway bar and also on the rear tie bar as well. I can't seem to get any of it off. WTF is this stuff? Has anyone else experienced this when they got the car back after bodywork being done to it? And how can I get it off? It feels like sand.
it's overspray
yoshi - whose not sure how to get dat chit off

For items like the exhaust or swaybar, you can just use laquer thinner on a rag. (Keep away from your paint)
Damn
They should have wrapped and protected the misc. parts before starting to work on the car. Anyways, what will the stuff used to take off the overspray do to the finish of my muffler?

Have the Body Shop get that ish off. Or have them pay for it. Clay Bar is the poop, but it can be pricey.

hey what you should do is have a pro-detailer do that claybar job. I had the same problem with my 01 GSR and I got into a fender bender and some paint was taken off and of course all body shop places wanna do is repaint everything instead of using sanpaper. So when I got my car back over spray was everywhere b/c the god damn painter was to lazy to cover my car with anything so i wouldnt get over spray anywhere so thats what happened and then I had my neighbor which is a pro-detailer do this job. This job is a pain in the *** b/c u have to move the claybar around alot everytime u go over about an inch of body. But it also depends how much Overspray there is.Good luck P.S. did u go to a shitty paint job place? b/c if so you should go over there and yell at the manager and tell him to give u money for having a pro-detailer do this job. and yell at the lazy *** Painter too for not covering your car with paper.
thats some *****...take it back and tell them its unacceptable and if they dont fix it you want new parts that dont have overspray on them. the car didnt have overspray on it when you took it there and you just wanted it returned to factory condition right? well overspray isnt a factory add-on to my knowledge
Just a warning to people in CA. DO NOT take your cars to M2 Collision Centers. Even though the dealership and AAA recommends them, they still suck. They also fucked up my interior. I now have dust particles and a strange chemical smell all over the inside of my car.
Dude, when you get your car painted, it will smell like paint.
It'll go away after a while.
Get the Clay Bar form Pep Boys and follow the directions. Your shiet will be good as new again.

Is it just me or did the clay bar do nothing for your car? I did my whole car, and I didnt really notice a huge difference?
you have to know how to use a claybar. when you use a claybar you only use it on the small amount of overspray there is like 2inches by 2inches or whatever. But when the claybar gets dirt on it have to roll it up and spread it out like a pancake and do that process over and over untill u get the over spray off. then u must wax it
That's true, but what if the part of the car with overspray just got painted. Aren't you supposed to let the paint "cure" for 60days. (No waxing, etc.)? The body shop told me not to wash the car with detergents or wax it for 2 months.
Cleaning clay really is only made to get dirt and other contaminates off. If it removed overspray, it could remove paint, therefore, you wouldnt have any paint on your car after claying it. Just my .02, but cleaning clay wont get overspray off.
yes S4 you are right So wait and then give the body shop **** for over sppray

Sorry to hear you got some overspray on your car... That stuff is a two part paint with a hardner, so it's tough to get off, and if your car is black you should get a pro with a polisher to remove it... the clay bar will probably hurt your paint cause you will have to apply some pressure to cut the nibs of paint...
Overspray is a pain for you and the shop.. they can usually prevent it on the rest of the painted surfaces, but with a down draft booth it's impossible to prevent the undercarriage from getting something cause you need the air to flow to the fans to get the paint to lay right, and the pickup point for the flow is under the car getting painted... if the overspray is awful it might require some wet sanding and then polishing... not a big deal... and gets you a very smooth finish.. and also best done by a pro...
Most shops don't let overspray go out the door, and I'm surprised your shop hasn't offered to fix it.. maybe give them a chance.. they fix overspray all of the time... just a fact of life when you production paint...
And the thinner shouldn't hurt your exhaust finish, but it will remove any oil or film protectant you may have on the system..
