Default stainless steel vs aluminum (searched)

for IC piping

i read that for heat soak and all that ss and alum dont matter since air travles through so quickly.

but how much lighter is alum. than ss? is it worth it?

and generally speaking how fast does alum rust before ss starts to?

so SS is over 2x heavier than alum according to that... for alum charge pipes. especially since all the extra turbo weight up front and in general.

You're not going to want to make a header out of aluminum, if that's what you have in mind. You're best bet is aluminum for intake, and stainless for exhaust....unless you can afford titanium for both

The second choice for intake piping will be stainless, with first being aluminum, only for the reason of weight savings. The drawback is that a dropped wrench can dent aluminum a lot easier, depending on thickness.

I believe that, but how come some aluminum comes aluminized ? Is this just sheet metal that is coated with this stuff so it does not rust ?

I think you mean that some steel comes alumized so it wont rust.

Engloid: the original post was just meant for intercooler piping. Titanium is tities tho

304 SS is also about 2.5-3 times stronger than 6061-0 (which you have to assume the Al will be, since after you weld it, it loses it's heat treatment)

Just something to keep in mind, you probably won't need that extra strength for charge piping.
