What kind of diffeance is there in using aluminum charge pipes over steel?

I assume the aluminum is the better choice due it dissapating the heat but is it THAT big of a differance?

Weight and the fact that Aluminum wont heat soak as much as steel.

i think its the opposite when it comes to aluminum, i have done some test and aluminum in all its thin-ness seems to hold heat much more throughout the entire piping.

where as steel (stainless) as i tested seem to dissipate and draw it towards the outside of the pipe.

now im not a engineer grad BUT, the guntubes on on the M1A1 tanks i work on are made from steel with an aluminum thermal shroud, i would have to say due to durability and its strength the steel does a better job, we then slide a "pretty" looking aluminum shroud over it.

That and the fact that all heat exchangers are made of aluminum

I was kind of looking at it from a perfomance issue, what kind of gains would result in a switch from SS to Al

Isn't AL going to heat up much faster also since it isn't as dense as steel? Think of an aluminum cooking pan.

how about think of an aluminum radiator....it takes the heat out of the charge air and releases it ...
