Timing ? for all you expierenced mechanics Help
i just rebuilt a 92 f22 accord, and i have the bottom end set at TDC, and the camshaft set at TDC but the little white timing mark on the flywheel doesnt line up with the window in the bell housing, how do i fix this, its supposed to be aligned, and if i align it the it sets the bottom end and top end off about 20 or 30 degrees, thanks
i am not sure but the marking on flywheel is not TDC and it is used only to adjust timing with a timing light. you should worry about aligning the camshaft and crankshaft that the arrows are pointing upward and that the distribtor rotor is pointing to No 1 sparkplug wire. you also should check that the no 1 piston is at the top - you can do this by inserting something long and thin through the spark plug hole and hear or feel if it hits the piston right on top.
one thing I forgot to mention is that you need to make sure that both exhaust and intake camshaft lobes at piston #1 are pointing downward that the rocker arms are not touching the valves ( I meant actually compressed).
if the rotor does not point to #1 wire after checking piston, camshaft and crankshaft all at TDC, you need to take it out and reset that it points to #1 wire. if the camshaft and crankshaft do not align straight up with arrows, you need to redo the timing belt.
if you have dist. rotor pointing to #1, #1 piston at top and camshaft and crankshaft arrow straight upwards and lobes disengaged at #1, you should be all right and that they are all aligned. dont try to align the setup with the flywheel marking. check with the book to be sure.
