b18c1 or b20z
Hey! just want to know what you guys think, i have 7G to buy a motor but i don't know which is better the b18c1 or b20z. i'm thinking about building an all motor engine for my EK, so please guys help me out which is a better motor to build for all motor engine?
you're talking B20 w/ vtec head right? hope so. the hardest part about going w/ a b20 is finding a good tranny and head to go w/ the block. When building any motor, it's hard to argue w/ more displacement, so I'd chose the B20. It sounds like you got the $ to back it up, so what I'd do if I were you is find like a B16, and use the tranny and head w/ the B20 block, and have the B16 as a back-up. actually that's what I did.
Although, after feeling that B20 power, I couldn't go back to the B16 block when it blew. I'm currently rockin ls/vtec and thinking about sleeving the cracked B20 to run it again. my car's turbo b.t.w., you shouldn't have to worry about cracking sleeves n/a.
One thing to think about though is heat dissipation. B20's have all aluminum sleeves, and are skinnier where the pistons meet, whereas B18's and B16's have about 1-1.5mm of steel(I think) inner sleeves, and more room between each piston that helps keep things cooler. if this is gonna be beat on like a track car, I'd say B18 will be enough, but if drag racing I'd go B20.
hope that helps. also, you should try to get a B16 or type R tranny if you're gonna be N/A. shorter gearing. or aftermarket w/ a quaife lsd...ooo, now I'm just dreaming.
