Ok, this happens rarely, but anyway it does and I'd like to know why and what to expect next.

At times I will try to take the car to the red line, but then vtec would not kick in at its usual ~5.5k...fuel cuts off (if that's what it really does) and the car jerks as if you took your foot off the gas pedal at about 6.5k rpm. It's not even at red line and I know it can go further to like 7.8k rpm. If I remember right, it only happened in 1st or 2nd gear.

Now why would it do that and what to check for?

PS. My car is a 2000 base with 51k miles on it. Stock engine.

It will do this when it's not warmed up enough yet, and it's normal. If it is warmed up, then something is wrong and you will need to start troubleshooting...

That's what I thought too for a moment. Tonight it did that two times in a row, in 1st and then again in 2nd gear. The engine was off for about an hour in a -5 celcius temperature. So maybe it's just user error on me
