Default getting code 16, checked everything! PLEASE HELP!!

ok i have a 90 crx dpfi. went to start my car and it wouldnt start and my ecu was throwing code 16 (fuel injection) now at first im thinking bad fuel injector. well i test it and its good, also test the wires and even look down in there to see if theyre spraying. my car still wont start. ive been trying to figure this out for the past 24 hours straight almost! im going insane. ive been doing alot of searching on here and found out this code is a common problem and read through all the old topics and never really found any answers. i also get code 10 and 14 every now and then, even though i have already checked the EACV and IAT. its seems thats a common problem also.

after searching i found out that if your car wont start it will throw a code 16. you could unplug the spark plug wires and it will throw code 16. thats what i read. so i have been checking EVERYTHING. i checked the ignitor, coil, spark, eacv, iat, plugs, wires, switched out main relay for a good one, fuel injectors. fuel is shooting out of the injectors and the plugs are soaked with gas from trying to start it. it cranks over like it wants to start and pops some, but nothing.

i will paypal whoever finds out what is wrong. please help me im so desperate, i need to get my car running. im totally baffled.

basically its throwing code 16 and im getting spark and gas is all over the plugs. so why the HELL wont it start??

so you have'nt done anything recent to the car that could of affected starting? From what you listed on things you've already checked I say switch out the distributor and clear the ECU of codes.

yes i actually did just do something recent the day before all this happened. i put a new throttle body base gasket and oring on and i put a new eacv on. it ran fine for a day after i did those things. so if im getting spark, the dizzy can still be bad? id have to make sure before i have to go buy something that expensive. and i cant even count the the millions of times i cleared the ecu.

oh and does anybody know how the primary and auxillary fuel injectors work? when starting the car does only the aux. spray until it is started and then they both spray or just the main one sprays? anyone know?

already thought of that and did that. nothing...

really my car is really wierd. it also burns oil. i made a post about it awhile back and no one here can tell me why its burning oil because ive fixed and changed everything that could cause it to burn oil.

Don't believe everything you read. Unplugging 1 spark plug wire will not result in a code 16.

How did you test for spark ? Also link me to your oil thread.

You also say it pops, like from where, tail pipe ? Are you postive you have the correct firing order ?

i tested for spark by grounding the spark plug and having someone crank the engine over.

my oil thread, https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=2
it has all brand new valve stem seals, and complete head gasket kit.

well not really pops, but it acts like it wants to start. its just a little bit of the gas exploding.it sounds so close to starting but it wont. and yes the firing order is correct.

i tested all of them for spark.

i also tested the resistance between the wires and dist. cap, but got no reading?? i know it should be less then 25,000 ohms and if its more than that then theyre bad. but the wires that are on the crx are the oem wires from my civic. i swapped them back onto my civic and they work. oh and also got a new dist. cap, rotor, and plugs.

btw, thanks for helping

i changed the intake manifold gasket a few days earlier then those two things. and the car ran so much better because the crappy gasket that was on there, the openings were half the size that they should of been.

another wierd thing is. i got this crx from a salvage auction ($200 great shape). at first we couldnt get it started, but then we noticed the main relay was hanging down and a wire was spliced onto the black wire going to the main relay. it wasnt connected to anything. so we thought about grounding it, and sure enough, it started right up. i dont get that. whats the black wire going to the main relay for? either way its been starting up fine for about 2 months now until just recently it wont start at all. i also put a new main relay on it, grounded that wire and it still wouldnt start, i ungrounded the wire and still wouldnt start either.

after totally looking this car over, i have noticed that the previous owners have been having problems with it. the main relay deal, the screws holding the coil on were a little stripped out. there is a new computer sensor on the passenger side footwell that is dangling there because they left the old one bolted up in there. just numerous things.

So the wire is connected to number 2 ?

And your sure the wire does not go anywhere else ?

You did the intake manifold gasket, well are you sure you have the fuel injectors clipped to the right injector ?

yes its connected to the number 2 and it only runs to the chassis ground.

yes the fuel inj. clips are matched up right. there is only two and theyre green to green and brown to brown.

Hmm, I would try to follow the original ground wire and see if there is a split some where. Loose the extra wire.

All you need to start a car is fuel, spark and compression. How are the compression numbers ? Also how is your cam timing.

i tried following it as far as i could, dont see anything.

funny thing is i have exactly 180 psi in all four cylinders.

my timing was off a hair, but now it is PERFECT. when i put the head back on wheneever i changed the headgasket i double checked the cam timing but i guess it wouldnt hurt to check it again. could it of skipped a tooth? it started and ran fine after the headgasket change.

i know i have fuel reaching the spark plugs because they were soaked in gas. i know i have spark and compression. running fine the other day, get out of car and get back in and boom, wont start.

im clueless, though and really frustrated and need to get this thing running. i will give whoever solves this some money.

ok i think i may of found the problem maybe.

i like to check over everything countless times in case i missed something. well i checked for spark again, and im not getting ANY spark at all on the number 1 spark plug, the other 3 are fine. i could of sworn i seen it spark last night, but now i know it isnt.

now why isnt it sparking? i have replaced the following: dist. cap, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires. and i also checked the coil and ignitor and they are in both running order.

i still dont get it though, if its just that one that isnt getting spark it should still start and run on 3 cylinders. well, at least my civic does. maybe its the obd0 crap.

If you are getting spark and fuel then your engine would start. You said that you have fuel on the plugs, therfore you are getting fuel, so either you are not getting spark or you have a mechanical problem like a lack of compression or something like that. What color is the spark you are seeing?
