Has anyone done or know someone that has converted their Automatic to ZC while keeping the Auto tranny? Making it a DOHC ZC with an auto tranny. I know it sounds like a big waste of money and time, but this is what I prefered at this point in time.

Okay let me make it clear for you guys. I have a 92 DX auto hatch. I want to swap out the motor only and put in a 2nd Gen ZC JDM 92-95 civic OBI MOTOR only. The reason why I want this is because I have to commute in traffic and do not want a stick shift right now. I want just a bit of power so i can jump if i needed to. SO basically the same power as an LS motor auto but in a civic hatch. Get it now??? Also it won't be in the EF forum becuase my car is 92 and the motor is also 92-95 DOHC ZC which most people didn't know exist, so this is the right forum.

everything should go great... i dont see your problem. they are both d series... either ecu would work.. either tranny would work. just put it in and drive it... i dont see point in asking if anyone else has done it. do it.

 

the dohc zc bolted right up to my ex/si tranny and ran pretty good in my hatch, im assuming you wont have any problems...as long as you use your current clutch pack (or whatever they call it for automatics)


and btw...it wont be THAT much faster...the dohc zc is still just a 1.6

Good point. The difference in power won't be big.

 

It probably won't make a big enough difference to justify spending the money on a new engine... unless you have it already or are getting it really cheap, that's different. I doubt you'd notice the difference until you were on the highway, but like krazySOHC said, it won't be major.

 

20 hp is quite a difference i would say. its like saying swapping to an ls motor is nothing.. i say go ahead and do it, then gte a beater and put an ex/si tranny with the zc and ull have a quick little car. but that is a waste of time though pulling ur engine and stuff for an auto.

 

my current engine has over 315K miles. HONDA POWER BABEE. It runs fine even with the AC on. the problem is that the water pump seals are bad and is leaking fluid from it. If i change the waterpump, i might as well change the timming belt. That's gonna be well over a hundred bucks. A DOHC ZC motor is like 4-5 hundred bucks so might as well swap out the engine. I just need to know what kinda things I need for this swap. LIke can i still us my auto dx ecu or get an LS. I need technical stuff like that.

 

u can still use your dx ecu, but i suggest using the zc ecu.. i dont know how big of a difference there would be, but the ecu should be with the engine you buy im guessing. u dont really need anything besides coolant, oil change and tune up is a good idea. otherwise just drop it on in.

 

ive had several different kinds of d series motors in my car and i can honestly tell you...it wont be a HUGE difference...especially if you have an auto...with a simple intake, ex header and intake manifold (under 100 bucs) youll be pretty close to a dohc zc...i speak from experience

if you have the zc laying around like i did....go for it

 

Like everyone else said on here...If you have it handy or not paying much for it...then go for it...it'll be pretty pointless though with an auto...unique but pointless...if you want to see a real difference...make it manual and drop a combo of a ex/si tranny and the zc and then you'll have a real difference not a super car but enough "upgrade" from what you have now
