stock b16's make i think 10:2:1, iwouldnt run s2s2 with any compression under 11:1

I heard they will make some good power with anything in the 11.0 to 12.0 range. Keep in mind they need to be run with a valvetrain upgrade. If your looking for an easier alternative try CTR or ITR (bolt-in w/stock redline). They really wake up B16 engines.

About 12.0-12.5:1 would work really well with those s2s2 cams.

With CTR cams or S2S1's is it a necessity to upgrade the valvetrain or can you run your stock springs and retainers?

If you're keeping your stock rev limit then no. If I was you, I would lean more towards the ctr's because I think the S2S1's might be stressin your valve springs a little bit in time. I have a fairly stock ctr motor and the cam change-over is loud as hell, but mine also hits at 6k...so it's kinda loud already. The skunk 2 stg.2's will need at least 12:1 like the guy above said to get their maximum power, they could go with less but may bog a little in a 1.6. You can find ctr's for cheap too, just my thoughts

Yea now u guys got me thinking, i was origanally planning on getting the upgraded valvetrain (omnipower) and doing the s2s2 cams and getting hondata and increasing my rev limiter and whatnot, but i would still have stock compression in my b16...So is it worth spending all that money and getting the s2s2 and upgraded valvetrain and running stock compression, or just buying CTR cams and not even worry about hondata and upgraded valvetrain and keep my stock rev limit..

With CTR cams would i feel a difference?
or can i do what i said before ( i heard u can get a new head gasket that incresses compression by .4 i think) i was only planning on doing my head not my whole motor.. Ayy opinions would be helpful.

I have a Spoon headgasket which raises .2-.3, I heard that the Mugen headgasket raises .4, but thats a little hard for me to believe. You will notice an increase in dropping in ctr cams, and it's a much more cost-effective upgrade than having to do cams, valvetrain, and added compression-i.e. pistons. If you're just looking for a few extra horsepower, pick up a set of used type r cams and pop em in, you'll for sure feel it. Both my roomates dropped in usdm itr cams in their stock b16's and 3rd and 4th gear pulled much harder, it was hard to tell the diff in 1st and 2nd cuz they went through so fast.....

If I were you and it sounds like you got a bit of a budget i'd get a pair of used itr or ctr cams and drop those baby's in. They are an awesome cam for the money. As for the redline I rev mine to 9k in my JDM GSR, I have stock honda dual valvesprings (int/exh) though. B16's are missing them on exh side, so unless you upgrade the exh side keep stock rev limit to be safe.

So if i get CTr or ITR cams, would i still have to get it tuned?

Becase i had the option to get an apex VAFC but i turned it down, i could still get that and then just use that to tuned it, i would still use my stock rev limiter of 8,000? or would i benifit more from increasing my redline to 9000 with the ITR or CTR cams and using my stock internals?

Bc here are my options get the s2s2 and the upgraded valvetrain and get it tuned with Hondata..
or i can get the ITR and keep my stock revlimiter and stock valvetrain?

Im prolly not going to get new pistons jsut a gasket? Is it possible to run ITR and get the gasket anyway?

All input is aprecciated

Your trying to decide between quite a few options there. Heres a few thing s that I hope will help you out. Get something to tune your car with VAFC or Hondata, regardless of cam setup tuning is important. Raising the comp with a thinner headgasket is something that will have a small effect in your current setup. If you decide to pull the head off for valvetrain upgrade and S2S2 cams, you'll need a new gasket anyway and any comp increase will help. If you decide to keep the head on for now though and use ITR or CTR cams with stock rev limit then that isn't a problem either. Depends on what you wanna spend. The S2S2 option is good but you are probably overcamming on a B16 with 10.2 comp and the cams wont give you their full potential. Good luck

Man, just drop in the ctr cams, keep the cam gears at zero, set the valve lash at 7 and 7, put your valve cover back on and stop losin sleep over it. Done.

i seem to have the same confusion, i wanted to get me some cams that i can feel a difference in, everyone told me s2s2 but i have to change valve train. now that i hear that they dont work full potential w/o the right compression i dont know what to get. sounds like the ctrs are the best so far.

heres what i have tho, im getting a set of usdm itr pistons in soon on my b18c1 and a spoon head gasket. so should i get the ctrs with my stock valve train and just rev to my stock rev limit or get itr or ctr springs and retainers, or get the s2s2's with the skunk springs and retainers...man i need advice...will apreciate it peace.

I think that if you are going to go with usdm itr pistons on your b18c1 and a spoon head gasket, then your compression should be around 11.4:1 and you should definately use S2S2's. Definately upgrade your valvetrain then. The CTR cams probably would be a step down with that setup.

Most people don't know that unless you do the work yourself or you are building the motor from scratch with it already out of the car then, installing a set of pistons cost about $1,000. Probably out of the question for most people.

Im set on getting s2s2 cams for my b16. When i did a search here, half the people says those cams work better on high compression motor and the other half says it will work well on a stock comp motor. My motor harldy upped its compression with just Spoon pistons. I am upgrading from ITR cams, but now im 50/50 in my decision because i might be better off with my current setup.

would s2s1s be better then the CTR, and if i did the stage 1s would u all recomend getting an VAFC....

becasue now im thinking of not upgrading my valvetrain and keeping my stock limiter, but would i still have to get the VAFC to get it tuned or would i run fine?

what is valve lash? and is possible to do the cams in my driveway? how long would it take?

If you have to ask these questions, I wouldn't recommend you install cams...

isnt lash i thought how much play is in the rocker arm, i know kinda what to do becasue i have seen my brother do it on his gsr. But he was the one that did it..

But would i still have to get it tuned if i got the stage 1s or CTR?
