Default KYB AGX install

This past weekend I just put brand new KYB AGX struts on my 91 CRX Si with 2" lowering springs. Driving around I get this metal clinging sound, I know what it is, it's the damn medal dust covers clanging off the front struts. Would you recommend taking them off or cutting them down or just silencing them?

I just installed some AGX's last week too. I cut the dust covers down about 1/2 way which is as far as I could since the rest of it is metal. My car is dropped on some GC's and the bottom of the covers are grinding against the top of the threaded collars but only when really compressed and it only rubs the top 3 grooves. If I did it again I'd get different covers or remove them completely.

I'm thinking of just taking them off, but taking them off won't affect anything right?

What kind of springs do you have? How is the ride w/ the KYB AGX? I was thinking of getting that but went w/ the Tein SS, going to install them today hopefully everything turns out well!

Leaving them off won't hurt anything. I just wanted to keep them on if i could.

hmm doesn't the instructions say leave 1/2" of dust cover on the strut. I followed the instructions and i don't have any problems. my car was dropped about 2 inches or so.... now its only about 1 1/2 lowered.... i'd like to keep my warrenty.

1/2" isn't much at all though...almost defeats the purpose.

I'm gonna get new springs after the new year and come up half an inch all around and get some new rims and tires, going from 17 to 15, too bumpy. Wasn't sure where I wanted to go with the car when I first got it, spent a year in Japan and know where I want to go with it now.

ya I came accross basically the same problem on my 89 sedan... I did however, leave the distcovers on all the way because I don't want the shocks to get rusted out or anything crazy. if you can, you should look for rubber dust covers that can be put on around the metal ones that are like 1/2 in long or whatever... other than the clunking, I love these shocks!

think your missing what that 1/2" is. we are talking about needing to cut the Strut Sleeve/Cover from like 3-5"s down to 1/2 of an inch. that way it doesn't rub.
