Crower 405a with Ctr pistons on ls rods. Clearance issues????
I will be claying the motor but was wondering if the cams are to big and would make for piston contact to the valve.
Just wondering if any of you smarties can calculate the distance.
Cams:
Advertised Duration Duration @ .050" Gross Lift w/1.75
280 / 274 230 / 222 .476 / .467
B18B head with B18b block 81mm bore, trying to go 200hp.

I had 404's in a LS with CTR pistons. I clayed the motor and I think (this was several months ago) I had .220 between the Valve and piston. That might not be right but I remember starting at like .150 and rotating it through and not having any imprint So I had to add more clay. So I was pleasantly surprised to find out I had more clearance than expected. 405a's are only .030 more lift. But I'd definately still clay the motor. Just because I say there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and you read it on Honda-Tech doesn't make it true.
Thanks so "technically/mathmetically" it should work.
Well thats good.
Anyone else ever have this setup??

The setup I will go with when I go back to VA! Sounds good curious to see what happens! You should be fine but clay anyway!

I have been following your posts as well, good to see an non-vtec all motor brother.
Yeah this is going to be a long hall project, dont even have a car for the motor, yet.

Not necessarily. How much is your head milled? Has your block been decked? Are you going to use oversized valves?
I have CTR pistons on LS rods with Colt race cams. Piston to valve clearance when I clayed at -6 +6 cam timing was very minimal minimal.
Make sure you clay at the most "agressive" (for lack of a better term) cam timing that you forsee using.

Yeah I would love a crx but so hard to find one here in cali for a reasonable deal. Even at that just finding one. Tring to get one from the $0-1000 range but some kind of decent shape.

I will for sure be claying at the most aggressive cam timing on these cams. And I will be using a P8R head off a jmb b20. the valves are, i believe 33 mm and chamber is 84mm. After spending all this money, I will for sure be claying this beast.
I was thinking to my self that if I use this head, cause it 84mm and my block is 81 wont the combustioin chamber bigger thus lose compression??
No, head not milled but probably going to clean the block and head for proper seating. As little as milling possible.
Thanks
Edit: not using P8r head, not good with stock b18b block.

look for theft recoveries and cars with blown engines. You can pick these up for cheap!
