i havent run the ES100s before, but i have run 712s and then ran azenis after that... 712s aint got **** on the azenis (on dry weather)
I run my Yokos to the track, and the Azenis when I get there.
If you want a street tire, with maybe some track use, go with the Yokos, one of the best street tires out there for the money.
The azenis were great as a daily driver for a few thousand miles; but after they wear (~50% tread), they pick up some bad characteristics. They get very, very noisy, and the wet traction is severely decreased in standing water to the point of being scary.

I'm running Yoko ES100s right now and they're great. The Azenis are great in dry traction for Auto X and for daily driving but once you go road racing i heard when they get too hot they start losing traction
over tires such as Yokos. So i've heard from friends that Auto X and road race. So i guess it depends what you are going to do with the tires... Overall i would recommend the Yoko ES100.
Edit: Not sure how the new azenis will stand up to heat though. Maybe they will do better...

The Azenis don't loose traction when hot. They do get a little 'greasy' at higher temperature, but the grip is still there; just at a slightly higher slip angle. I do have a spray bottle to cool them between autoX runs, just to maintain a consistant feel between each run, not because they loose grip. At an HPDE, it's not a problem since they will be at a constant temp once warm with a consistant feel.
There are better road race tires than the Azenis, but I'm not about to have a 4th set of wheels for HPDE. Under all conditions they are better at the track than the Yokos (not to say they can't be used, but they're not optimal). In any case, you'll never need more than the Yokos for the street and an occasional trip to the track.

alot of people seem to like the Azenis, but I've heard they are not the best for daily driving once they start wearing.
I've drove on ES100's for a solid month and took them to mountains for a few hours. Once they get warm, they would not slide for nothing. They made a lil noise but maintained grip.

The Falken RT-215 (Azenis Sport) is on it's way out the door as we speak. Falken will no longer be making this tire. They are replacing it with the new RT-615 which should be available Jan or Feb. Their supposed to be better than the old 215 (tech says it won't get greasy), be lighter (due to nylon plys instead of steel), have a slightly stiffer sidewall, and still maintain its 200 treadwear. It will also be offered in new sizes (were not sure if they are discontinuing some old sizes or not). 205-40-16 is on the way!

I thought it wasn't goign to be until mid 1Q 2005? I know that's only a few months, but there'll still be new old stock lying around; And we won't know if any of thier claims hold up until somebody goes through a few sets.

Your right, I'm just letting them know incase they wanted to get the newer design which will be out soon. Probably a good idea to wait, but if you run a 16" wheel, you don't have any other really good options in tires (thats the problem I have).

Your friends lied to you... The Azenis is going to have a higher level of grip across the board than the ES100.

Exactly. Granted that the Azenis do get greasy when really hot but if you got the ES100 in those conditions, it would be much worse.

I have run both. This last year in fact and in the same size.
When compared against each other as a street tires and not R compound.
Scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best
Grip level in Dry Azenis - 8.5 ES-100 - 6
Grip level in wet Azenis - 6 ES-100 - 8
Ride Harshness Azenis - 4 ES-100 - 8
Tread wear (life) Azenis - 5 ES-100 - 8
Road noise Azenis - 5 ES-100 - 7
Turn in (sidewall) Azenis - 8 ES-100 - 6
The Azenis get slick when hot but have a great deal of grip up to that point. They give away very smoothly. Ride is bad, just plain stiff and harsh. Turn in is sharp and confident though. They wear quick and get a bit hard with age. They do not handle cold and wet conditions very well at all.
The Yoko's are smooth and quiet, have decent grip, and ride well. Turn in is slightly less sharp but easy to adjust too. They give up grip much quicker than the Falken's but also give away smooth. Easy tire to drift if you are a RWD'er. Wear much better but as they get near the end of their life they get rock hard and super slick in the cold. Handle wet stuff with ease until right up till the end of their life.
I got 7000 miles and 6 autocrosses out of the Azenis and 12000 miles and 4 autocrosses out of the Yoko's. The Yoko is not an autocross tire. It just gives up too much grip to the other sticky street tires out there.
