Which is the better cutting tool ?
I am looking for something to make about 1000 cuts in 1x1 16ga steel tubing. I intend to make a chassis from it and i will need a few angled cuts.
Os the abrasive chop saw better than a band saw?
The chop is a good bit cheaper but is it as good?
I know the driveshaft shop near me uses the band saw so I am inclined to think its better.
What would you guys get and why ?
Thanks

Band saws produce straighter, more accurate cuts. If you're going to be notching most of the ends though it doesn't matter anyways. You can easily get by with the chop saw.
What are you planning to build?

Go for a band saw or a Dewalt multi-cutter. I have a band saw, chop saw, and the multi-cutter and use the multi-cutter for almost everything except extreme angles. Fast cuts, no blade deflection, no smell, no dust, no oil, and little to no deburring make it a worthy investment.
I have both a horizontal band and chop saw. I definately use the band saw more. The cuts are very clean and need minimal deburring. The chop saw makes pretty nasty cuts, especially on thicker material...

I give mad propz to anyone who crafts car panels completely from aluminum. Really looks nice and shows an amazing level of craftmanship. After the Mini I'm considering building something very much like the one in the picture... no composite.

I had no idea... remind me of a "cold saw" though it's a bit different. A cold saw's blade turns very slowly, and is usually bathed in coolant. The Dewalt is a nice product though... I'll keep that one in mind, thanks.

Where did you guys who own the Dewalt Multi-Cutter find yours for a decent price? I saw the videos on Dewalt's website of this saw in action and it's incredible!
It's a pretty nice alternative to a cold saw for those of us who are low on funds.

you might want to think about a greater wall thickness for a chassis application.
personally i think that 16ga is a little under kill.
i agree a horizontal band would most time and cost effective.

Stupid class rules say I have to run a full cage so thats why I feel confident about skimping on the tubing thickness and keeping the weight down..

Just watch the video and it seems like a really nice tool. Why do they always use the same guy for all safety and instruction videos, anyways it seems like there going for around 290$ which is not that bad.

Where did u find it for 290? Most places I've seen want upwards for 350-450 for it.
